Barcelona 16/17 Vapor Kit with AeroSwift Technology

FC Barcelona’s new Nike Vapor home kit pairs Nike innovation with design details that honor the 25th anniversary of the club’s triumphant 91/92 European campaign.

The new Vapor away kit blends the iconic red and blue colors of the home kit to produce a unique and bold new purple away kit for the 2016/17 season.

Starting in 2014, Nike performed extensive research with players on what their ultimate future uniform would entail.  The focus was on fit, breathability and a superhero aesthetic.

Making that vision a reality began with an entirely new Yarn. Nike’s design team tested hundreds of yarns before identifying the perfect properties for ensuring advanced breathability. The result is a kit that wicks sweat away from the skin 20% faster than Nike’s most recent soccer jerseys, while also drying 25% faster.

The texturized yarn is fuller than previous iterations, which enables Nike to use less yarn without risking transparency. As a result, kits constructed with AeroSwift technology are 10% lighter, with 50% more stretch than their predecessors. The new yarn also has a brushed quality to it that feels better against the skin.

As important as the yarn itself is the precision knitting process needed to construct Nike Vapor jerseys. Nike Vapor kits with AeroSwift feature a combination of single and double knit; single knit where the athlete needs breathability, double knit where more structure is required. The knitting is so precise it enables construction of true holes where needed.

The 16/17 home jersey the club’s classic broad vertical stripes alternate FC Barcelona’s traditional red and blue with lighter shades of the same hues. Thinner tonal stripes, which also nod the club’s style during its seminal championship run, taper near the hem. The sleeves and shoulders feature contrasting agility rib fabric that reveals midnight navy and hyper cobalt stripes.

On both the home and away jersey, odes to club pride appear on the interior and exterior of the shirt. On the back of the collar, ‘Barça’ is knit alongside a small woven Catalan flag, the Senyera. ‘Un Crit’ and ‘Valen,’ which together mean ‘Our Cry is Bold’ in Catalan, adorn the inside right and left cuffs, respectively. The phrase draws from the club’s official fan anthem “Cant del Barca,” customarily sung prior to kick-off.
