Argentina has advanced to the Copa America Centenario final after dominating the United States on Tuesday night. The No. 1 ranked team in the world got off to an extremely fast start and cruised to a rather easy 4-0 victory over the U.S. national team.
Ezequiel Lavezzi got the scoring started in just the 3rd minute thanks to a sublime assist from Lionel Messi:
Near the hour mark, Messi would go from provider to scorer and he would make history in the process. The brilliant Messi became Argentina’s all-time leading goal scorer, passing Gabriel Batistuta’s record of 54 goals. His stunning free kick fooled Brad Guzan and put his name underneath yet another record:
Gonzalo Higuain added two simple goals in the second half while the U.S. failed to create much of anything over the 90 minutes.
Argentina advance to the final where they’ll hope to get Messi his first ever major international title. They’ll play the winner of Colombia and Chile, while the U.S. will play the loser in the third-place match.
