X 16+ Purechaos

The 2nd iteration of the adidas “chaos” silo, the X 16+ is still focused on speed and unpredictability. But while the core concept of the shoe is unchanged, almost everything about the 2016 model has been updated and improved.

 Purecut and Techfit Sock

The most prominent feature of the X 16+ is the striking Purecut lacing system which hides the laces inside the Upper creating a clean surface between ball and foot and a more secure and explosive fit. The laces are connected to the outsole via a system of nylon straps which wrap the foot and act as a cage to provide stability though the midfoot. That Purecut system ties into the mid-cut Techfit collar which wraps the majority of the foot. A tightly knitted Techfit sock envelops and molds to the shape of your foot, allowing for zero wear-in time and a perfect fit. This sock-like portion ends at the vamp, where the stitching runs across the upper.

Purechaos Heel Liner and S-Curve

In the heel liner is a very soft, padded synthetic suede and features grip dots to keep the foot locked in place during quick changes of direction. The distinct silhouette of the S-Curve Heel Counter is taken from the Ultra Boost running shoe and enhances comfort while eliminating the need for an internal heel counter and thus decreasing weight. It follows the natural shape of the achilles tendon and provides flexible support.

X-Skin Upper

The X-Skin upper is virtually unchanged from the X 15, and still features Non-Stop Grip across the entire upper. The X-Skin material is constructed using 3 layers – a soft, synthetic suede liner, an engineered base of stretchy, thin microfiber, and the NSG polyurethane coating and grip dots for added control in all conditions.

Sprintframe Outsole and Chaos Tooling

As with the Ace 16 line, adidas has re-introduced their Sprintframe outsole for the X 16. The 6.8 oz weight, a full ounce lighter than the X 15, is thanks in large part to this update. The stud pattern (tooling) has also been updated. The studs are much more rounded than what had been used for the X-Claw of the 2015 model. The Tooling is built for speed, with the shape and placement of the studs focused on enhancing the quick and unpredictable movements on and off the ball of the X player.

X 16.1

Techfit Compression Upper

The X 16.1 features a dynamic and adaptive one piece upper. Using a combination of Techfit and X-Skin, the upper molds to and hugs the foot for a snug fit right out of the box. This combination and fit provides upper that moves with the foot and is reactive to the high-speed, high-risk moves of the X-type player. Unlike the Purechaos, the 16.1 does not feature NSG, though there is 3D embossed texturing which will provide a small amount of extra grip.

Sprintframe Outsole and Chaos Tooling

The 16.1 features the same super light Sprintframe outsole and Chaos FG/AG tooling as the 16+. The only difference is the 16.1 does not feature the chrome finish featured on the 16+.
