Brazil Run Rampant, Peru & Ecuador Draw on Day 6 of Copa América

Day six of the Copa America Centenario saw Brazil turn on the style and demolish CONCACAF side Haiti, 7-1. It was a one-sided match with the star of the night being Philippe Coutinho who recorded the first hat trick of the competition.

He opened the scoring with a brilliant individual effort. The Liverpool attacker picked up possession on the left side of the field, dribbled past a defender and unleashed a ferocious shot to the near post.

He added a tap-in to make it 2-0 and the rout began. Haiti would grab an emotional consolation goal for a feel-good story. James Marcelin, someone who was in Haiti during the 2010 earthquake and survived, scored the goal against the world soccer giants. It was the first time Brazil had ever conceded a goal to a Caribbean country and Haiti’s first Copa America goal ever.

Coutinho would complete his hat trick in second half stoppage time with another stunning goal from outside of the box. Have Brazil found another star to lean on?

To cap off the night, Peru and Ecuador played to a thrilling 2-2 draw to split the points. Christian Cueva opened the scoring for the Peruvians just five minutes into the match with a moment of absolute genius. While receiving a pass near the top of the box, he spun and nutmegged a defender all in one motion and finished brilliantly for possible the goal of the tournament.

Peru would double their lead soon after a look to be well on their way to a perfect 2 for 2 start, but Ecuador stormed back with two goals and salvaged a point for their second draw of the group stages.

Brazil have shot to the top of the Group B standings, with Peru behind on goal differential. Ecuador remain alive on two points with Haiti down and out but still proud to be there.
