Day four of the Copa America Centenario kicked off with a match-up of the two underdogs of Group D. Panama topped Bolivia, 2-1, thanks to a brace by Blas Perez.
The 35-year-old Vancouver Whitecaps striker scored in the 9th and 88th minutes lift his country to their first ever. Perez finished off a volley inside the box early in the match to give his side the lead, but Bolivia equalized after halftime. With the clock ticking towards full-time, the veteran once again popped up in the right spot to score a historic goal for the Panamanians.
The main event of the evening saw a rematch of the 2015 Copa America final between Argentina and Chile take place. Angel Di Maria would help the No. 1 team in the world get its revenge for that final loss with a 2-0 win in a brilliantly played match. The PSG winger played just a day after losing his grandmother and scored the winning goal during the second half.
He then proceeded to celebrate by revealing a shirt to his late grandmother that basically translates to “I’ll miss you grandmother.”
Both sides were high in quality on the night but it was Argentina who prevailed. It wouldn’t be at all surprising to see the two teams meet again in the knockout stage somewhere.
