Adidas Ace 15.1

Now Available at Upper 90

Back in the spring, Adidas announced they would be ending all of their silhouettes, including the much loved and long serving Predator. There were more than a few raised eyebrows at this decision, but adidas decided their footwear needed a revolution, and they promised a dramatic push forward. With the Ace 15.1, we can see a clear line drawn from Predator into the new adidas generation for the modern game. It is a game played by two distinct types of players: those who control everything, and those who create chaos. Ace is built for the former: the playmaker who is always looking to be involved and affect every part of the game. They lead the attack, pick the killer pass, track back to win the Ball, tackle hard, ping the 60 yard cross-field pass to spring a sprinting winger… They rule the game.

The upper is constructed from three layers which work together to help players control the ball and the game. A base layer of soft mesh provides a lightweight and adaptive fit, comfortable against the foot. The second layer is plays the critical role in what Ace is all about. A pliable and responsive super light EVA Foam creates a cushioned first touch allowing for instant control. The 3D texture and pattern of the foam give the upper it’s name: Control Web. The softness of the SL foam also gives a somewhat padded sensation when striking with the instep or laces, while the springy, responsive nature of the foam helps to add power and accuracy as it conforms to the foot during contact with the ball. Fused on top everything is adidas’ new NSG (Non-Stop Grip) technology. This is a very thin PU layer which seals the boot, and small raised dots also add grip in wet playing conditions. Adidas has also offered a more classic, Kangaroo leather version in the 15.1 for players looking for a natural touch. A full kangaroo vamp with memory foam inserted under the leather, the upper is soft, pliable, and pillowy, reminiscent of the 2014 11pro. It is a great option for players who value comfort and are looking for a leather upper.

The new Control Fit heel counter is engineered and focused on locked down fit and comfort. An external TPU heel counter wraps around the back of the foot to stabilize the foot and prevent slippage in the shoe. There is also extra padding around the collar of the boot for added comfort when making cuts and turns, so players can stay focused on their play and not be distracted by slipping or discomfort. Ace is built on a fairly wide last, which makes the fit is generous, and suitable for wider feet.

Adidas’ brand new and innovative Ground Control outsole is designed for use on both firm ground and artificial grass surfaces. The most striking feature of this cutting-edge layout is how many studs there are; the idea being that many shorter, more concentrated studs helps to alleviate stud pressure on harder AG surfaces by more evenly distributing weight across the studs and soleplate. The additional benefit of the Total Control stud pattern is that it places more studs on the ball when using the sole to dribble or control. The increased surface to surface contact gives better ball feel and more command of the ball during those types of underfoot touches. An internal midfoot shank provides stability and responsiveness, and the flexibility of the TPU compound allows freedom in toe-off movements.

The Ace 15.1 is built around total control. It is also one of the most comfortable shoes on the market, and performs well even on the difficult urban turf surfaces in New York City. For players concerned with comfort, fit, and touch it is an excellent option. Come by one of our retail locations to check them out and try them on, or buy them online here.
