Pumas 16/17 Home & Away Jerseys

The Pumas Club and the Central Library are vital components of the culture at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México. The library, known by the student community as the ‘South Wall’, features circles that reference the heliocentric view of Copernicus and geocentric theory of Ptolemaic, surrounded by the zodiac signs and constellations.

For the new 16/17 Pumas UNAM home and away kits, Nike took inspiration from the library’s design to reinforce the connection between the club and its surrounding community.

Featuring the club’s signature gold color, the home kit represents the east side of the Central Library. The home jersey places the iconic Pumas image in the place of the sun, surrounded by figures that symbolize the Copernican theory and other representative elements of México, including the Tenochtitlan city map.

The sides of the kit have a blue stripe that runs down the sides of shirt that expands when a player is in motion, thus maximizing ventilation.

Inspired by the west side of the Central Library, the away kit integrates the team’s classic blue with graphics related to the Ptolemaic theory and the last Aztec emperor, Cuauhtémoc, who is represented by the image of a falling eagle.
