Seahawks thought they’d win despite 31-0 deficit

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll says that his team believed they would win Sunday’s NFC divisional playoff game against the Carolina Panthers even though they were down 31-0 at halftime.

“There wasn’t a guy in the locker room who didn’t think we were going to win the football game. There wasn’t a word in that direction for a moment. The demonstration of what happened in the second half proved it. These guys totally believe that they can do whatever they’ve got to do, they believe in each other,” Carroll said after the game, via PFT.

Carroll says their comeback ran out of time.

“We just ran out of time. There wasn’t quite enough time,” Carroll said. “Unfortunately it was a terrible start and we just didn’t have enough time to overcome it.”

Carroll shot himself in the foot when he decided to go for a fourth down instead of kicking a Field Goal in the second half.

If Pete Carroll and the Seahawks kicked the field goal, they could have scored a touchdown on their final drive to tie the game and possibly push it the game to overtime.  Instead they were forced to kick an onside kick after they closed the deficit to seven points. But unfortunately they weren’t able to recover the kick and the game was then over.
