Tony Romo aiming for January return

The Dallas Cowboys have no plans of putting star quarterback Tony Romo on season-ending injured reserve after he re-injured his clavicle a few weeks ago, according to CBS Sports NFL Insider Jason la Canfora.

The Cowboys have Matt Cassel under center against the Packers this weekend and know the backup must continue to lead them through the regular season, but they also continue to hold out hope Tony Romo could return for the playoffs. Romo, who broke his left clavicle for the second time this season on Thanksgiving, badly wants to return if at all possible. He continues to aim for a January return, and the team has no plans to put him on IR at this time, leaving the window open for a potential return.

While the Cowboys did think about putting Romo on IR, they ultimately decided not to and all of sudden they’re now in the race for an NFC East title and a home playoff game.

If the Cowboys can somehow get into the playoffs and keep Romo healthy, they could make a run with how well their running game has looked with Darren McFadden as well as some solid play on defense.

The big problem is that the Cowboys have some tough match ups against teams like the Packers, Jets and Bills.
