Countdown to Opening Day: What's new this year at Citizens Bank Park

The Phillies have unveiled exciting updates at Citizens Bank Park for the 2024 season, marking the ballpark's 20th anniversary with a lineup of enhancements.

From a vibrant mural by a talented South Jersey artist to a cutting-edge out-of-town scoreboard in right field, and revamped food offerings, there's plenty to look forward to. As Citizens Bank Park reaches this milestone, the Phillies are gearing up to celebrate during the opening week, reminiscing on two decades of memorable moments.

Originally opening its gates on April 3, 2004, following the dramatic implosion of Veterans Stadium on March 21, 2004, the ballpark has become a cherished part of Philadelphia's sports legacy.

Longtime Phillies public address announcer, Dan Baker, expressed the sentiment shared by fans, players, and staff alike: "Twenty years and countless epic moments; now, it's time to carve out more history at Citizens Bank Park."

With Opening Day just around the corner, anticipation is building as Zack Wheeler prepares to make his inaugural Opening Day start against the Atlanta Braves' Spencer Strider.

In this landmark year, the Phillies aspire to create new chapters of excitement at Citizens Bank Park. Kicking off the festivities is Randy Wolf, slated to throw the ceremonial first pitch on April 12, precisely 20 years since the Bank's grand opening. Wolf holds a special place in Phillies history as the starter of the team's inaugural regular-season game at Citizens Bank Park, despite the eventual loss to the Cincinnati Reds with a score of 4-1.

Throughout the season, the Phillies have scheduled five on-field celebrations preceding afternoon games on May 8, May 23, June 19, July 31, and August 8, coinciding with the team's Alumni Day.

Among the highlights, fans will be treated to the unveiling of a striking new mural above Ashburn Alley in left-center field, envisioned by the talented artist Jose Bustamante from Mantua Township, New Jersey. Bustamante's design triumphed in a contest hosted by SEI and the Phillies, spotlighting local artistic talent at the Bank.

The Phillies have bid farewell to the old out-of-town scoreboard in right field, ushering in a state-of-the-art replacement. This new, high-tech scoreboard promises to elevate the fan experience, boasting features such as in-game stats and real-time out-of-town scores. As per the team's press release, this field-level display will complement the existing scoreboard, offering fans even more immersive game coverage.

Also, with the dawn of a new season comes an array of fresh merchandise awaiting fans at the New Era Phillies Team Store. From exclusive apparel and footwear to stylish drinkware and essential gear, there's something for every aficionado to indulge in. In celebration of Citizens Bank Park's 20th anniversary, New Era has curated a special lineup of commemorative items, including trading pins, pennants, magnets, coolers, and more, allowing fans to cherish this milestone in style.
