Lenny Dykstra arrested; won't participate in 1993 Phillies celebration next month

Former Phillies standout Lenny Dykstra was arrested early Wednesday morning in Linden, New Jersey, after allegedly threatening an Uber driver while in possession of ecstasy and cocaine.

Dykstra, 55, was taken into custody around 3:30 a.m. after the driver sped into a parking lot adjacent to the Linden Police Headquarters.

According to the driver, Dykstra wished to change the destination of his trip and when he refused the three-time All-Star allegedly put a weapon to his head and threatened to kill him.

The police did not find a weapon but did find marijuana, cocaine, and ecstasy, according to reports.

Dykstra is charged with third-degree making terroristic threats, third-degree charges for possession of cocaine and MDMA and disorderly persons charges for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

This recent run-in with the law is the latest episode in Dykstra's well documented rough-and-tumble lifestyle. He's been arrested numerous times and reportedly lost millions of dollars via frivolous spending and poor business decisions.

A key contributor to 1993 Phillies club that reached the World Series, Dykstra was supposed to be in Philadelphia next month when the organization celebrates the 25-year anniversary of the team clinching the National League pennant.

Now, that won't be happening.

"In the interest of keeping the focus on the entire 1993 team, rather than one individual, the Phillies have made the decision to not include Lenny Dykstra in the activities taking place at Citizens Bank Park to honor the 25th anniversary of the NL champs," the Phillies said Wednesday in a statement. "While the club recognizes Lenny's immense contributions to the 1993 season, we believe his presence could distract from the celebration of this beloved team."

Dykstra was released on a summons and is due in Union County Superior Court on June 8, police said.
