Nigerians Abroad Watch: Onyekuru, Ighalo Banging In Goals; Mikel Woeful In China

Ighalo and Onyekuru ring in the goals as Iheanacho makes his first start

In England, the biggest news was, of course, Kelechi Iheanacho making his 1st start for Leicester City as they shared the spoils at Huddersfield, before being pulled off for Shinji Okazaki.

The 20 year old forward arrived at the King power stadium unfit but finally looks like he’s put his fitness problems behind him. Wilfred Ndidi completed 90 mins yet again for the foxes, while Ahmed Musa failed to make the matchday squad.
Super Sunday saw Chelsea and Arsenal square off at Stamford Bridge. The game ended 1-1 with both Alex Iwobi and Victor Mosesincluded in the starting line ups. The Chelsea wing back completed 90 mins while Iwobi was replaced by Mohamed ElNeny

Elsewhere, Isaac Success was left on the bench, and I think he wouldn’t begrudge that decision as he won’t be associated with the 0-6 reverse Watford suffered at the hands of Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City, while Tammy Abraham and Swansea City did much to give credence to the Wembley hoodooas the held Spurs to a goalless draw.
In the Championship, Ola Aina and Fikayo Tomoriplayed all 90 mins as Hull were held 1-1 at home to Sunderland. Omatsone Aluko also completed 90 mins in Reading’s, you guessed it, 1-1 draw at Brentford.

In Spain,Girona’s Olanrewaju “Larry” Kayodecame off the bench for the 4th consecutive game for the La Liga debutants but could not stop them falling 0-1 to Sevilla. On loan from Manchester City, the 24 year old striker has come off the bench in all 4 league games for the Blanquivermell, 3 times on the 80th minute or after.

In Italy,Rio 2016 Olympic bronze medalist, Sadiq Umarwas an unused substitute as Torino were held 2-2 at home to Sampdoria. Joel Obi failed to make the matchday squad for Il Toro.

Let's switch to Germany where youngster, Victor Osimhen was an unused substitute as Wolfsburg fell to the odd goal at Stuttgart. Leon Balogun was unable to prevent hapless Mainz from falling 4-0 to a rampant Bayern Munich.

Moving to Belgium, Abdul Ajagun and Henry Onyekuru were on the score sheet for Kortrijk and Anderlecht respectively as they played out a 2-2 draw. Ajagun started and scored to make it 1-1 before being taken off. Onyekuru came off the bench to salvage a point for Anderlecht late in the 2nd half.
Elsewhere, Tawio Awoniyi put Royal Excel Mouscron ahead away to Zulte Waregem. The hosts however came back to win 2-1. It was the 20 year old striker’s 2nd goal in 5 games.
Moses Simon also completed 90 mins for Gent, alongside Anderson Esiti as they won 0-2 at KV Oostende. Joseph Akpala was an unused substitute in the tie.

Belgian-born Nigerian striker, Cyriel Dessers was unable to prevent Utrecht from falling 4-0 at Twente in the IDuth Eredivisie. Veteran striker, Bartholomew Ogbeche failed to make the matchday squad as Willem II eased their early season troubles with a 1-3 at bottom club, Roda JC

The woes of struggling Tianjin Teda and John Obi Mikel continued in the Chinese Super League, as the 2nd from bottom club lost 1-5 at home to Odion Ighalo’s Changchun Yatai. The former Watford striker scored one and assisted another in an impressive 90 mins.
Elsewhere, Obafemi Martins was unable to add to his 7 goals for Shanghai Shenhua, as he was not included in the matchday squad in their 6-1 loss to local rivals, Shanghai SIPG. The veteran striker is currently recovering from an injury problem.

In Finland, Gbolahan Salami came off the bench and proved the match winner, scoring a brace for KUPS away to VPS in a 1-3 win. They were his 6th and 7th goals for the 3rdplaced club this season. Reuben Gabrielcompleted 90 mins for KUPS in the game.

Finally, Emmanuel Emenike was a second half substitute as Olympiacos were held to a 1-1 at home to Asteras in Greece
