NPFL Week 26 Preview: 5 Things To Watch Out For

With Rivers united pipping shooting stars football club by an odd goal, we takes a look at what to expect in the remaining match day 26 fixtures.

Daniel Itodo Looking To Wreak Havoc On Nasarawa
As Plateau united seek to extend their lead at the summit of the NPFL table, they face a big obstacle in the rejuvenated Nasarawa united.

The Lalong boys though would take comfort in the fact that they’ve failed to win just one match so far this season. One go-to person who has been delivering the goods for them this season has to be Daniel Itodo.

The left back has been inspiring form recently. This is not because of his beautiful crosses or his resilient defending, but solely because of his long throw-in. This style was first made popular by Rory Delap while playing for Stoke city in the English premier league. Itodo has been able to master this art, using it to terrorize opponents.

The former player of DSS Football Club of Kaduna has had 13 assists already this season—that’s an average of an assist per game. Nasarawa united should be wary of the “Itodo special” when they meet.

Abdul Maikaba Having The Midas Touch On Akwa United
Everything Abdul Maikaba seems to turn to gold. The confidence in the team is at the highest, having seen his team lose just once in their last five.
The former Wikki Tourist tactician would take his team to Sagamu, hoping for a win against Remo stars. He has been able to re-ignite the scoring ability of his strikers while also making sure that the team also keep it tight at the back.

The likes of Al-Hassan Ibrahim a.k.a Muazzam, Friday Ubong, Christian Pyagbara, have all hit top form scoring goals for fun. A win for them though would see them within move within touching distance of a continental spot, knowing fully well that they have a game in hand.

El-Kanemi Warriors Need Another Away Win
El-kanemi warriors have just recorded an away victory this season. That was what Ladan Bosso was banking on until their hundred percent home run was halted by Enugu Rangers. The team, though, in second position on the log, have got a tricky away fixture at the Uj Esuene stadium against Enyimba.

There are very few grounds that are winnable in the NPFL, but Bosso’s team need to get another away victory to help maintain that position having won just one of their last four games. The good thing for the Maiduguri based team is that they have won three times out of the last four meetings against Enyimba.

The Oriental Derby Is One To Watch Out For
The tie between Fc Ifeanyi Ubah and Enugu Rangers, serves for a tasty affair. Both teams have had contrasting results in recent week, which makes it one to watch.

For one, rangers are unbeaten in their last four—which has seen them surge up the table to 13th; 6 points behind their opponents. Chukwuma Agbo has been able to revamp the team with simplicity in his methods, enough to instill confidence in his lads.

Ifeanyi Ubah, though, were held to a goalless draw by Wikki tourist in their last match, but have still lost just two matches in their last 11.

The trident of Prince Aggreh, King Osanga And Godwin Obaje—last season top scorer, have been a menace to opposing defenders with Obaje close to hitting double figures this season. All these speak volume of the kind of game we are to expect.

Mfm Needs To Defend Better
MFM sit joint second on the log. That seem like a very good positon to be in for a team that wants to win the title. While that is true, the Olukoya boys really need to improve on their defending.

A glance at the table would show you that they have a minus one goal difference. That is the worst record amongst the teams in the top half of the table. All these is mitigated by the way they concede a whole lot of goals away from home.

They haven’t help their goal difference either by scoring just four times in their last six matches. They have an opportunity to rectify that against a sunshine stars team who have conceded seven goals in its last four.
