May Day Gossip: Reds Slap Huge Fee On Sturridge; Barca Plan Summer Clear-out

Liverpool are hoping for a fee of around £40m if Daniel Sturridge leaves Anfield this summer, while Marseille and Man City are keen on Arsenal star Laurent Koscielny, according to Monday’s papers.

Liverpool will reportedly place a £40m valuation on striker Daniel Sturridge if the England international indicates he would like to leave Anfield this summer.

The price tag is incredible given that Sturridge has hardly featured from the start for the Reds this season due to constant injury issues.
However, according to the Daily Mail, Liverpool feel there will be plenty of competition for the 27-year-old, who has scored 59 goals in 115 games for the Anfield outfit.

One club who have been strongly linked with a move for Sturridge is West Ham but even they are likely to be put off by such a high asking price.

Marseille And Man City Eye Arsenal Star
Laurent Koscielny is reportedly being chased by Ligue 1 side Marseille as well as Premier League rivals Manchester City.

The news will come as a potential blow to Gunners fans, with the France star considered to be Arsenal’s best defender and a real linchpin of the side.
According to the report in The Sun, the 31-year-old is said to be becoming frustrated at Arsenal’s inability to challenge for the Premier League title and could look for an alternative home this summer.

A return to France makes perfect sense, given that Koscielny has spent the last seven years of his life in England, but City are also an attractive option, with Pep Guardiola looking to revamp his side during the course of the summer transfer window.

Sell First, Buy Later For Barca
Barcelona have big plans to buy new players this summer, but according to AS, the Catalan giants will be obliged to sell some of their existing core before going to market.
The Blaugrana's wish list includes some of the world's top young stars -- like Marco Verratti, Philippe Coutinho and Hector Bellerin -- as the team looks to life after Luis Enrique. And the list of players who could make way is equally recognizable, with Arda Turan and Jeremy Mathieu expected to be surplus to requirements at the Camp Nou.

One more high-profile name whose future is on the fence is Jordi Alba. The Spain international has seen his playing time reduced this season and, despite his expressed desire to stay at Barca, he wants to be guaranteed regular opportunities in Barca's first-choice XI. Manchester United are reportedly interested in the 28-year-old as Jose Mourinho attempts to shore up his defence in the close season.
