The Football world was hit by a devastating tragedy on Tuesday, when Brazil’s Chapecoense Football Club was involved in a plane crash that killed 71 people. In the aftermath of the Colombia plane crash, Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo is reportedly making a 3 million euro donation.
, the Portuguese National Team Captain and Real Madrid forward has offered to make the sizable donation to the stricken Brazilian team. The Chapecoense first team and many members of its staff were killed in the crash while on their way to Medellin, Colombia.
Chapecoense was heading out to play the first leg of the Copa Sudamerica final against Atletico Nacional. With 71 confirmed casualties out of the 77 passengers onboard, the club has practically been wiped out.
Cristiano Ronaldo has not made any public announcement about the Reported Donation and it remains to be confirmed. However, he did go to his Facebook account to express his grief about the incident and to extend his support.
Whether Ronaldo’s reported donation is true or not, the club could certainly use all kinds of help. They are now faced with the task of rebuilding an entire football club practically from scratch.
Luckily, the football world has been quick with the display of generosity. According to Sport 360, Brazilian clubs have offered to loan out players for free during the coming three football seasons. In the same period, the clubs have called on a relegation exemption for Chapecoense.
This means that while the team tries to rebuild and get back on its feet, they will have no fear of getting relegated into lower league divisions for the next three years.
French champions Paris Saint Germain have also reportedly pledged a 40 million euro donation to help the club.
