West Ham United were relying on home Advantage to help secure Premier League survival this season.

Five of West Ham's remaining nine games were scheduled to be at home.

And many of them are against teams in and around West Ham in the Premier League table.

If and when the season does resume it will do so without fans there to help push West Ham on.

First the neutral grounds proposition looked set to wipe out home advantage.

But opposition to that plan - particularly from the likes of West Ham - has seen a shift that will likely mean games will be played in each club's home ground.

A new report Sky Sports has looked at the Bundesliga restart as a guide to whether home advantage will be impacted playing behind closed doors.

And the findings do not bode well for West Ham.

Home teams have won only 14% of games played behind closed doors in Germany.

There have been just three home wins in 22 Bundesliga games played behind closed doors, which suggests home advantage is wiped out without fans.

That ratio represents a massive 30% slump for success on home soil since the league restarted and underlines how fans in the stands are the key component to home advantage.

The Sky Sports report states: Teams with more home fixtures remaining would lose a boost from their 'twelfth man', and teams with more away games to play would gain.

West Ham have picked up 1.07 points per game at home this season compared to 0.80 away from home.

Expected points already leaning heavily on home form

Based on those averages David Moyes's side would expect to pick up another 8-9 points in the remaining games.

That would leave the Hammers on around 35-36 points.

That total would be touch and go as it is. But taking away home advantage could skew things further.

Frustratingly West Ham were steadily improving before the enforced shutdown.

The Hammers had beaten Southampton 3-1. And they should then have comfortably beaten Arsenal before the break but lost 1-0 after the Gunners scored a flukey goal thanks to a lucky deflection.
