Our View: West Ham must go all out for £12m colossus Pellegrini allegedly wanted to sign

West Ham are bang in trouble.

They currently sit in 17th spot in the Premier League table, and are level on points with 19th placed Watford.

The Hammers have brought in Tomas Soucek on a loan until the end of the season, but David Moyes needs to supplement the addition of the Czech midfielder with at least two more players, if his side are to avoid the drop this season.

One area where West Ham are incredibly weak is the centre-forward department. Sebastien Haller has failed to impress since joining the Hammers for £45 million from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer.

And Moyes really should be looking to get the best out of the Frenchman by bringing in someone who can support him.

Salomon Rondon could be an interesting option

The Venezuelan hitman is currently plying his trade in China with Dalian Yifang, where he has scored five goals in 12 appearances thus far.

The 30-year-old is not the most prolific of strikers, having scored 136 goals in 398 career club appearances (Transfermarkt).

Rondon does have extensive experience of playing Premier League football, however, having made a combined 140 appearances for West Bromwich Albion and Newcastle respectively. He scored 35 goals during those outings and racked up 14 assists (premierleague.com).

The South American's game is based around so much more than scoring goals, however. His work-rate both on and off the ball is matched by few. He is well known for making tireless runs into the channels and creating space for his teammates. His playing style is summed up perfectly by the Chronicle.

The north-east newspaper labelled Rondon as a 'colossus' and a 'persistent nuisance' to opposing defenders during his time at St James' Park.

Haller could flourish playing alongside Rondon

His ability to drag defenders out of position would provide Haller with the opportunity to do more of his work in and around the penalty area.

The 30-year-old has been on West Ham's radar before too. The Mirror claimed in the summer that the Hammers actually lodged a £12 million bid for Rondon.

According to the Times, Manchester United want to sign the Venezuelan before tomorrow's deadline, so the Hammers will have their work cut-out, if they do indeed make a move to sign him.

Rondon is exactly the man West Ham should be going for in the next 24 hours. Signing him could make the difference between relegation and survival for the east London outfit. And Moyes really should be considering the former West Brom and Newcastle hitman.
