Pellegrini could get former striker target from Atletico Madrid for bargain fee

West Ham United boss Manuel Pellegrini is searching for a second striker on the cheap.

West Ham let Marko Arnautovic, Lucas Perez and Andy Carroll leave this summer.

Sebastien Haller became West Ham's record signing last week for a reported £45million (BBC Sport).

And that - according to the likes of Claret & Hugh - has left West Ham somewhat strapped for cash when it comes to bringing in a second forward.

Departures could raise much-needed cash

The impending departures of Pedro Obiang, Reece Oxford and Jordan Hugill could - depending on which reports you believe - give Pellegrini some much-needed money to spend.

And he could get a potential bargain by reigniting his interest in Atletico Madrid striker Nikola Kalinic.

Pellegrini wanted the former AC Milan and Blackburn Rovers forward last summer (Eldesmarque).

Kalinic moved to Atletico instead, though.

How West Ham could get former Pellegrini target Kalinic for bargain fee

And now he is available again after barely featuring under Diego Simeone.

A new report from Spain this week claims Atletico want to conclude the sale of Kalinic this week after a recent transfer splurge (Marca).

The Croatian has not travelled with Atletico on their pre-season tour to the United States.

Marca claims Atleti are 'hopeful of finalising his sale this week'.

Kalinic only joined Atletico from Milan in a £12.5m deal last summer but started just seven La Liga games, scoring twice.

Problematic but with pedigree

It has been a second season of frustration for the 31-year-old after an underwhelming stint at the San Siro following a £25m move from Fiorentina in 2017.

The striker does have something of a bad boy reputation.

But with 15 goals in 40 games for Croatia and over 150 club career goals to his name he clearly has pedigree.

He would undoubtedly be available for a knockdown fee and could provide experienced back-up for Haller and Javier Hernandez.
