Report: West Ham face battle with new club for key striker target

West Ham face new competition in the race to sign Salomon Rondon. According to Marca, Boca Juniors are now interested in signing Rondon from West Bromwich Albion.

Rondon looks certain to leave West Brom this summer with plenty of interest in his services. Newcastle United, West Ham and Wolves all want Rondon (as per The Chronicle).

But Newcastle's situation could put West Ham in a better position. The Venezuela international was eager to rejoin Rafa Benitez at St James' Park but the Spaniard has since departed.

Wolves' interest appears to have cooled in recent weeks. And this put West Ham in the driving seat as they eyed Rondon as an alternative to Maxi Gomez.

However, West Ham will now need to fend off interest from Boca Juniors. The Argentine giants want to bring the powerful striker back to South America this summer.

According to this report by Marca, Marseille are keen on signing Dario Benedetto from Boca Juniors. If the French club land their man, Boca need to sign a new striker.

Two key options have emerged and both play in England. Rondon is one of them. And Southampton's forgotten man Guido Carrillo is the other, although Leganes want him back too.

Benedetto's exit is far from certain. In fact, Boca and Marseille are quite some way apart in their valuations. But the 29-year-old wants to move to Europe and this deal could go ahead. If Benedetto leaves, Rondon could be on his way to Boca Juniors.

All of these strikers mentioned (aside from Carrillo) have one thing in common: they have been linked with West Ham. The Hammers play a major role in this striker merry-go-round.

Marseille want Benedetto because Mario Balotelli is departing on a free transfer. Reliable West Ham insider EXWHUEmployee has revealed that the hot-headed Italian striker is one of the options for the Hammers this summer.

Meanwhile, Boca Juniors want Rondon to replace Benedetto. In turn, the Irons have been linked with a £20m swoop for Benedetto (as per TEAMtalk).

But rather than getting involved with this transfer merry-go-round, West Ham could cut out the middle man with a straight swoop for West Brom star Rondon.
