Young International Hammers: Where Will West Ham’s Starlets Be Heading This International Break?

The fourth International break of the 2017/2018 domestic football season is now upon us, you heard earlier in the week where West Ham United’s senior International stars will be Heading over the week, now, it’s time to take a look at the Academy of Football and find out where and when the 12 youth internationals will be in action.

U16

Only two Young Hammers will be featuring Internationally at U16 level and they are U18 stars Serine Sanneh and Daniel Jinadu, who will both be representing England U16s this month.

The Three Lions travel to the Montaigu Tournament in France, where they will face off with Russia, Cameroon and Brazil in the group stages, ties which will be played out over the final week of March.

U17

Similarly, just two youngsters will also be heading off a level above, but they won’t be representing the same nation, one of them will turn out for England, Ajibola Alese, but the other will be with Serbia, striker Kristjan Belic.

Alese will be heading to Spain for a training camp, in which they will play out two exhibition matches against Brazil, a stern test for the English youngsters in sunnier climes.

Meanwhile, Belic will feature competitively for the Serbians in the European U17 Championship Elite Round, a triple-header of fixtures await the young striker and his nation as they face off with Czech Republic, Ukraine and Spain.

U19

Three of Terry Westley’s U23 crop have been selected to represent their respective countries at U19 level, back-up goalkeeper Rihards Matrevics, central midfielder Conor Coventry and exciting attacker Domingos Quina.

The trio will all be helping their sides in their quests to qualify for the 2018 UEFA European U19 Championship to be held in Finland in the summer, following up from last year’s tournament in Georgia.

Quina and Portugal, host Kosovo and Slovakia before travelling to the Republic of Ireland, while Matrevics will be between the sticks for Latvia also in the Elite Round.

They face England away from home in Group 2, after a trip to Macedonia and a home tie with Hungary, Coventry turns out for the Republic of Ireland in Group 5, away to Slovakia, home to Kosovo and home to Portugal.

U20

There will be just a single International at U20 level leaving Chadwell Heath for the week this time around, young England goalkeeper Nathan Trott will be him, as his Impressive Premier League 2 term continues.

Trott and the rest of Keith Downing’s side have a double of friendlies to attend to, the first of those will be a trip to chilly Poland, before they return to Manchester to host Portugal.

U21

The U21 bracket is the most densely populated in terms of Internationals from the Academy in March, no fewer than four, all of which are in qualifying action for the 2016 UEFA European U21 Championship.

Declan Rice has received a dual call-up to both the Ireland senior and U21 teams, it will be a busy week for him as he is set to feature for the men’s team against Turkey in a friendly then a Group 5 match for the U21s against Azerbaijan.

His Hammers teammate Josh Cullen will captain the young Irish team for the qualifier and also a home friendly with Iceland the week before, both youngsters picked up awards at the yearly FAI ceremony last Sunday.

Edimilson Fernandes, who usually turns out for the Switzerland senior team, has been selected for the level below as he recovers from a severe ankle injury that he has been out since November with.

The Swiss go up against Portugal early next week in Group 8 while undergoing a training camp in the process, the nation will get a chance to assess Fernandes as he looks to go to his first World Cup in the summer.

And finally, Burton Albion loanee Martin Samuelsen has got his usual Norway call to the U21 team, they face Israel in Group 9, prior to this travelling to Italy to play out a friendly.
