Detroit Lions make decision on David Montgomery, Taylor Decker, and Emmanuel Moseley

UPDATE: The report below has been updated – Taylor Decker and David Montgomery ARE expected to play according to an update by Tom Pelissero, while Moseley is OUT.

Tom Pelissero on X: “Correction: #Lions RB David Montgomery and LT Taylor Decker ARE playing tonight against the #Packers. CB Emmanuel Moseley is NOT playing. There was a miscommunication, and I will just have to eat this one. I apologize for the error.” / X (twitter.com)

In just over 12 hours, our Detroit Lions will take on the Green Bay Packers on Thursday Night Football. Ever since Sunday's game against the Atlanta Falcons ended, Lions head coach Dan Campbell has been saying that he was optimistic that both Taylor Decker and David Montgomery would return from their injuries to play against the Packers. Well, according to a report that has surfaced, that is not expected to be the case.

Bad News For Detroit Lions

According to the initial report from Tom Pelissero, Montgomery and Decker weren't expected to play, but CB Emmanuel Moseley would make his debut.

Shortly following this report, Pelissero released a new statement, saying that Decker and Montgomery WILL suit up for tonight's game, but Moseley would not.

Why it Matters

The Lions have been without Decker for the last two weeks, and the hope was that he was going to return for the Lions matchup against the Packers. With Decker being out, Penei Sewell has been forced to slide over to left tackle. Detroit is dealing with multiple injuries on their offensive line.

Montgomery, who was injured during the Lions Week 2 loss to the Seattle Seahawks was also expected to return against the Packers. Prior to getting injured, he was one of the Lions' most important offensive weapons.

TL;DR (too long didn't read)

  1. Decker's Absence and O-Line Struggles: Taylor Decker's absence for the past two weeks has necessitated adjustments on the Lions' offensive line, with Penei Sewell moving to left tackle.
  2. Montgomery's Importance: David Montgomery's injury, sustained during the Lions' Week 2 game against the Seattle Seahawks, has deprived the team of one of their vital offensive weapons.
