Buddy Hield beats out Denzel Valentine to win the Men's Wooden Award

With the curtains coming down on another spectacular and exciting College Basketball season, it is time to hand out some hardware.

On Friday, ESPN hosted the College Basketball Awards Show in Los Angeles. The biggest Award that was being dished out was the John R. Wooden Award, which goes to the nation's best player for men's and women's basketball.

On the men's side, there were 15 candidates who stood out above the rest but in the eyes of many, it came down to two consensus First Team All-Americans - Oklahoma senior Buddy Hield and Michigan State senior Denzel Valentine.

With each player already having taken home a 'POY' award from, the Wooden Award would ultimately settle the score on who was the best player in 2015-16.

After it was all said and done, it was the Sooners' Hield getting the last laugh.

An incredible season ends with an incredible honor.

Shout out to the Bahamas!

Hield, who was named the Naismith Player of the Year for 2015-16 and Big XII Player of the Year, averaged 25.0 points per game this season and shot an absurd slash line of 50.1 percent FG/45.7 percent 3PT/88.0 percent FT. He scored at least 20 points in 26 games this season and at least 30 points in 12 of those 26 games.

Valentine, who was named Player of the Year by the Associated Press and the Big Ten's best player, posted game averages of 19.2 points, 7.8 assists and 7.5 rebounds this season, the first time in college basketball history that a player has posted such a stat line. He recorded 12 double-doubles this season vs just one for Hield, and two of those double-digit stat stuffers were triple-doubles.

This is the second time an Oklahoma player has taken home the Wooden Award, the first time since 2009 when Blake Griffin was given the prestigious honor.
