NFL Playoff Picture Still Not In Focus

Following Monday’s NFL game there will be one week left in the regular season. The Nfl Playoff picture has not yet come into full focus yet, division titles, wildcards as well as top seeds are all still up for grabs.

The Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals and New England Patriots all have a bye in the first round of the playoffs, but division titles in the NFC North, AFC South and AFC West are still up for grabs.

Fifteen teams are still fighting for the 12 spots in the playoffs and all are hoping to reach Super Bowl 50 to be held at Levi’s Stadium in San Francisco.

Odds makers released a new set of futures for the Super Bowl with New England on top at +333, followed by Carolina at +400, Arizona, Seattle and Pittsburgh all at +650 rounding out the top five.

New England has gone through many injuries this season and had a slight skid during midseason, but odds makers have made them the favorites to win the Super Bowl. Two of the three New England losses were in overtime and both were games that the Patriots had a good chance to win.

They expect to have both Julian Edelman and Danny Amendola two of their top receivers back for the postseason.

Edelman is the catalyst on the team’s offense and last year was an important piece that helped them to a Super Bowl victory.

Carolina lost for the first time on Sunday to Atlanta, but will be a tough opponent in the NFC along with Arizona.

The team that is the most interesting in the top five is Pittsburgh. The Steelers have not even qualified for a playoff spot, yet they have the third shortest odds of winning the Vince Lombardi trophy.

Pittsburgh has two Super Bowl victories with Ben Roethlisberger at quarterback and lost a third. When they are healthy, the Steelers have one of the most prolific offenses in the NFL.

In the NFC, the biggest dark horse has to be Seattle. The Seahawks have won the NFC title two straight seasons and although they lost Sunday to St. Louis, the Seahawks have won 7 of their past 8 games overall.

Seattle will be a wildcard entrant this season and remind football pundits of the Green Bay Packers in 2010 that went on to win the Super Bowl.
