SPL Power Rankings, Week 23: Al Nassr – All Heart This Week

1 Showed the hunger of a lioness who had its cub stolen to get the first goal via the Ayala trademark free kick. Sahlawi added the finishing touches with his first in a while. All in all – an outstanding performance. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 7 Latest result: Won against Al Taawon 2-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Batin (21/4) 2 The last time they lost a game was in October. At the rate this squad is functioning, does not seem like that loss will come anytime soon….unless….. LAST WEEK: 1 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 5 Latest result: Draw against Al Ahli 0-0 Next SPL match: Away at Al Shabab (20/4) 3 Threw together a dominant 90-minute display, and absolutely rocked them from Set Pieces. Good to see Akaichi back on the scoreline. LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 4 Latest result: Won against Al Qadasiyah 4-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ettifaq (21/4) 4 It wasn’t about Omar Al Somah, Abdul Fatah Asiri or Taiseer Jassim today. It was all about the heroics of their shot blocker GK Yasser Al Mosailem. If it wasn’t for him, things might have been a little different. LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6 Latest result: Draw at Al Hilal 0-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Faisaly (20/4) 5 Probably scored the fastest goal of the season among all teams but must have learnt by now. No lead is safe. LAST WEEK: 4 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw against Al Ettifaq 3-3 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ahli (20/4) 6 Posted one of the most defensively dominant wins in the league this season — Good to see Bangoura get back on to the score sheet. Even better is the fact that they could pip Al Shabab and Al Taawon from 5th if things go their way. LAST WEEK: 8 HIGH: 4 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Won at Al Shabab 2-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Qadasiyah (21/4) 7 Al Shabab are the ultimate hot-and-cold team of the Dawry Jameel league. Only 7 wins this season yet in 5th position leaving them adrift, and it’s not clear what the path forward is for this group. Scrappy in the front and scrappy in the back. LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 11 Latest result: Lost against Al Raed 1-2 Next SPL match: Home against Al Hilal (20/4) 8 A valiant effort led by Bismark. It will be a pity if he remains at the club after the season ends (no offense Qadasawis). Needs to either move abroad or to the big four. Scored a goal of the season contender against Ittihad. هدف #القادسية الثاني عن طريق اللاعب بيسمارك فيريرا#دوري_بلس | #الاتحاد_القادسية pic.twitter.com/EMdF5v8tAf — dawriplus دوري بلس (@dawriplusksa) April 14, 2017 LAST WEEK: 7 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost at Al Ittihad 1-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Raed (21/4) 9 Fateh have some very obvious high-level foundational pieces giving way to victories, and added yet another with splendor of Tawfiq Buhumaid. They have every reason to believe they can fight to live to another season in Saudi’s top flight. LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Won against Al Batin 3-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Wehda (20/4) 10 Showed great resolve to bag the first goal out of nothing. Could have closed the game if only Ibrahim Al Talhi was able to take advantage of the 1v1 against Waleed Abdullah. LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Lost at Al Nassr 1-2 Next SPL match: Home against Al Khaleej (20/4) 11 Convincing victory with the help of nothing but set pieces and crosses. The long ball tactic helped however six yellow cards against a team like Al Wehda? Discipline is key which they lack at the moment. But how about that scare from Faisal? LAST WEEK: 12 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Won against Al Wehda 4-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Taawon (20/4) 12 A good fight-back on two occasions for the point but the next step is figuring out how to defend a little bit better, because what they’ve been doing hasn’t been working. LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Al Faisaly 3-3 Next SPL match: Home against Al Ittihad (21/4) 13 The backline will be taking most of the grief, in particular, because they need to know when to clear that crosses — we still see huge gaps in the Batin midfield. LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Fateh 2-3 Next SPL match: Home against Al Nassr (21/4) 14 A loss away in the fashion it came is fine, but this is still true: Only one win in five, and only two since November. Al Wehda will have a certain thing called faith to rely on, or they’ll end up dropping out. LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Khaleej 2-4 Next SPL match: Home against Al Fateh (20/4)
