SPL Power Rankings, Week 22: Al Nassr Keeping The Pressure Up

1 Power Rankings would like to welcome Eduardo back into the top influencer race, as he’s gone supernova for the last 180 minutes. Al Hilal have the league’s best record over the last five but the remaining schedule is one of the toughest of any team in the league. LAST WEEK: 1 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 5 Latest result: Won at Al Raed 3-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Ahli (15/4) 2 Al Nassr are unbeaten in six matches, and Friday’s result provided the second tie of that stretch. Truthfully, Al Nassr could easily have dropped Friday’s contest if not for the club’s reliance on Hassan Al Raheb. Though fans would expect on any given day they play against the big four, the club’s level of play can still rise a bit as the team enters crunch time. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 7 Latest result: Draw against Al Ittihad 1-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Taawon (15/4) 4 It took some grinding, but Ittihad escaped from Riyadh with a point. Ittihad may be a bit disappointed to take a tie away from a rivalry match that could have easily been won. The plus side is things just get easier from here on. LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 4 Latest result: Draw at Al Nassr 1-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Qadasiyah (14/4) 5 If you need to survive, you have got to rake out points regardless of the style of play which is what Faisaly accomplished. Wasn’t pretty but no complaints when you get 3 points at home. LAST WEEK: 7 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Won against Al Taawon 1-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Ettifaq (13/4) 3 They must really be disappointed in dropping points at home against a team that is struggling. Al Ahli will have to show a bit of resolve to bounce back from such a disastrous result. LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6 Latest result: Draw against Al Batin 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Hilal (15/4) 9 Despite facing a majority of the chances, Al Shabab’s opportunistic scoring ed the way to a 2-1 win over Al Wehda. Were lucky to come away with 3 points if not for the wrong call for offside which denied their opponents the equalizer. With that ended their 6 game Winless Streak. LAST WEEK: 8 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 11 Latest result: Won at Al Wehda 2-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Raed (13/4) 6 Elton continues to shine, but Qadasiyah’s defensive miscues proved too much. The backline was particularly lackluster against in the past few games, dooming the team to a loss following a pair of statement wins the games prior. LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost against Al Fateh 1-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ittihad (14/4) 7  Many teams have been handed losses by Al Hilal, but Raed will certainly be frustrated after keeping a clean sheet in the 1st half courtesy of some heroic performance of GK Mutab Sarahili. Bangoura in particular was a bit wasteful, understandable in the wake of his signing a new contract and the international break. LAST WEEK: 4 HIGH: 4 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost against Al Hilal 0-3 Next SPL match: Away at Al Shabab (13/4) 8 The fight for 5th position between Al Taawon and Al Shabab is still very much on. Got to give it up for Taawon though – are managing to keep a consistent trend of losing a Dawry Jameel game following a win. LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Lost at Al Faisaly 0-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Nassr (15/4) 12 International break was a blessing in disguise for Fateh, stopped a winless streak of 4 games. Would not celebrate coming out of relegation yet. LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Won at Al Qadasiyah 2-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Batin (15/4) 14 A major win. Reason being it ended a eleven game winless streak. This new look squad with time to gel will definitely be an exciting prospect to watch out for given if they remain in top flight. Ettifaq still have work to do, but Saturday’s result could prove a big one for a team still looking to recapture last year’s form. LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Won against Al Khaleej 3-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Faisaly (13/4) 10 It was a rough, rough performance from Al Khaleej, who would expect to earn at least a point against a struggling Ettifaq team. It was was another sign of the Al Khaleej’s woes, as this squad tends to win points on the road. LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Ettifaq 1-3 Next SPL match: Home against Al Wehda (14/4) 13 For Batin, this would probably be counted as a win. All star performance from the squad starting with GK Mazyad Al Enazi keeping Al Ahli at bay with some skillful shot blocking. But the question lingers, what if Jou Silva converted the penalty? Things might have been a little different. LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Al Ahli 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Fateh (15/4) 11 In Saturday’s match, Al Wahda were a bit better than the scoreline indicates, but did well against the stronger Al Shabab squad. Unlucky to come out with a point as Mukhtar Fallatah was clearly not offside on his ’second’ of the night. Still have time to squeeze away from relegation. LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost against Al Shabab 1-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Khaleej (14/4)
