AGL Power Rankings, Week 22: Al Jazira Edge One Step Closer To Lifting AGL Trophy

1 It’s not the matter of will anymore. It’s the matter of when. With this result, Al Jazira have taken sole possession of the Agl Trophy. PERIOD!!! LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 4 Latest result: Won at Dibba Al Fujairah 3-0 Next AGL match: Home against Al Shabab (14/4) 2 Four in a row now. They manage to drive down some goals against their opponents who have been in the lower tier however have also conceded 7 against those teams. Offensively strong yet defensively concerning. LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 2 | LOW: 9 Latest result: Won at Emirates 2-1 Next AGL match: Home against Al Ahli (15/4) 3 That was an emphatic bounce-back following their last game’s 2-0 loss against league leaders. The movement from the front man (Al Shamrani) — was devastating, and even the least known of the Abdul Rahman brothers had a significant game with couple of assists. LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 5 Latest result: Won against Al Dhafra 5-2 Next AGL match: Away at Al Wasl (15/4) 4 Growing defensively, but still lacking the kind of cutting edge in the final third that separates the wheat from the chaff. LAST WEEK: 1 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6 Latest result: Draw against Al Wasl 0-0 Next AGL match: Away at Al Wahda (15/4) 5 The Emirati talent is really helping the club and making some noise, especially Rabei and Salah if they keep scoring goals like that. The big worry is that even with the defense mostly healthy for the first time in forever, Al Nasr still give up tons of chances and have to scramble. LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 2 | LOW: 10 Latest result: Won against Ittihad Kalba 2-1 Next AGL match: Away at Hatta (14/4) 6 They’ve gone 2-3-0 in their last 5 games, and the issue is the same they had last season: Zero finishing from midfield. Have mostly relied on the Brazilians upfront who were shut down. LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 10 Latest result: Draw at Al Ahli  0-0 Next AGL match: Home against Al Ain (15/4) 7 One of the teams with just one win from their last twelve. That shows exactly how tough the league is, and exactly how a team with a strong calibre and a run like that can still be safe.  LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Draw at Baniyas 1-1 Next AGL match: Home against Emirates (14/4) 8 Still holding on to the middle of the table. Life does not get easier for them here on though. LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Al Shabab 1-1 Next AGL match: Away at Al Nasr (14/4) 9 Are they safe? Given the condition of the three below them, perhaps they’d be but they shouldn’t be comfortable just yet. LAST WEEK: 7 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost against Al Jazira 0-3 Next AGL match: Home against Al Jazira (5/4) 10 And…… thud. Take nothing away from Al Dhafra, who’ve had a remarkable season thus far. But this loss should emphasize just how hard it will be for anyone from the lower tier to ever come close to finishing in the top 5. LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost at Al Ain 2-5 Next AGL match: Home against Dibba Al Fujairah (15/4) 11 Every time it feels like they’re going to turn a corner they come crashing down to earth with a result like this. A positive – Madibo Maiga – next on the list to make it to a top club? LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost at Al Nasr 1-2 Next AGL match: Home against Baniyas (14/4) 12 There is only so much Sebastian Saez can do. With a squad that is not equipped for top flight football, the Argentinian has still managed to bag 10 league goals – with one of them being a penalty. Possible move to top flight club if they go down under. LAST WEEK: 12 HIGH: 12 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Wahda 1-2 Next AGL match: Away at Sharjah (14/4) 13 This team manages score goals courtesy of some a few classy foreigners. However, as seen with other clubs – the last 15 of the game has been an issue. Consistent trend of giving up goals. LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw against Sharjah 1-1 Next AGL match: Away at Ittihad Kalba (14/4) 14 Winless in the their last 6 right now. Switched off and were punished by an ever-opportunistic Samuel from the penalty spot. Another good if harsh lesson for a mostly troubled defense. LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw against Hatta 1-1 Next AGL match: Away at Al Jazira (14/4)
