AGL Power Rankings, Week 18: No Fabio Lima, No Problem – Al Wasl Still Make It Happen!!

1 Life is looking good for the soon to be Champions. All eleven seem to be clicking on all fronts. Now, the only question remains is will Ali Mabkhout become the top scorer and first Emirati to take the golden shoe in ages. LAST WEEK: 1 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 4 Latest result: Won at Baniyas 3-1 Next AGL match: Home against Emirates (15/2) 2 Nothing is quite so lovely as a road win especially when the pressure is on to qualify for the ACL. Al Wasl didn’t create a ton of chances but were clinical with the ones they found, and now have a eight-point deficit away from league champions. LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 10 Latest result: Won at Sharjah 2-1 Next AGL match: Home against Ittihad Kalba (17/2) 3 Have responded well since that loss to Al Ain with comprehensive and professional home wins. The best part? Both Diop and Khalil are showing glimpses of forming a good and strong offensive partnership. LAST WEEK: 4 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6 Latest result: Won against Al Shabab 4-1 Next AGL match: Away at Hatta (15/2) 4 A huge leap of confidence on Kwid’s squad … and yes, that means Power Rankings is finally on board. Al Dhafra just keep finding a way to get it done. LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Won at Ittihad Kalba 2-1 Next AGL match: Home against Baniyas (16/2) 5 The lack of a Douglas replacement is starting to tell. Al Ain never have an easy outlet, and even a team with this much skill occasionally needs someone they can frog the ball toward. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 5 Latest result: Lost against Dibba Al Fujairah 1-2 Next AGL match: Away at Al Shabab (15/2) 6 The talk following Thursday night’s drama was about the dysfunctional locker room mode with Al Ain, which is fine. But let’s not overlook the fact that Dibba went on the road and stole two precious points against the ‘champions’ or soon to be ex-champions. LAST WEEK: 8 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Won at Al Ain 2-1 Next AGL match: Home against Al Nasr (17/2) 7 19-yr-old Jassim Yaqoob Salman shows them how its done. This is what Al Nasr needs, young blood that is not afraid to call and subsequently take the shots. A little too late though? LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 2 | LOW: 10 Latest result: Won against Al Wahda 3-0 Next AGL match: Away at Dibba Al Fujairah (17/2) 8 And this team qualified for the Asian Champions League group stages? 😳 LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 9 Latest result: Lost at Al Nasr 0-3 Next AGL match: Home against Sharjah (16/2) 9 Ended an eight-game winless streak courtesy of a very persistent Adrian Rapotan in the 90th minute. And that persistence also led to his red card right away. Rest assured, those three points could have not come in any better time for Hatta. LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Won at Emirates 2-0 Next AGL match: Home against Al Ahli (15/2) 10 A draw and two losses since that drubbing of Al Shabab a few weeks ago. There is no flow or rhythm to this team, and without that there’s no identity. It’s all scrambling and back-foot defense in Kalba. LAST WEEK: 7 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost against Al Dhafra  1-2 Next AGL match: Away at Al Wasl (16/2) 11 They have not had a win since early December, that’s 8-game with out a win. But with that stat, they are still sitting a little comfortably away from relegation. Makes us wonder what’s going on in Jose Peseiro’s mind? LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Lost against Al Wasl 1-2 Next AGL match: Away at Al Wahda (16/2) 12 The last four games have been a roller-coaster ride for Emirates. You beat Al Ain, then lose to Dibba, you beat Al Shabab and then lose to Hatta. They have got us confused now. Life does not get easier with the two red cards to key players in the starting eleven. LAST WEEK: 12 HIGH: 12 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost against Hatta 0-2 Next AGL match: Away at Al Jazira (15/2) 13 Not much was expected out of Baniyas against a team like Al Jazira. Well, they did not surprise us either. LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost against Al Jazira 1-3 Next AGL match: Away at Al Dhafra (16/2) 14 t looked like Al Shabab could have turned a corner, but that loss — especially the late let-down — let some of the air out of the balloon. Any hopes of them being competitive this season is out of the picture. LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Ahli 1-4 Next AGL match: Home against Al Ain (15/2)
