SPL Power Rankings, Week 13: Ittihad On Top Among The Big Four in Saudi Arabia

1 It took a 96th minute goal from Akaichi for Ittihad to leapfrog to the top of the table. We are guessing that is what a approximately €2 million is worth. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 3 Latest result: Won against Al Fateh 3-2 Next SPL match: Home against Al Raed (23/12) 2 Bad decision by GK Abdullah Al Maiouf led to the equaliser. But it was quite clear that Al Hilal were in charge. However, just found it hard to get past the stubborn Nasrawi defence. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 5 Latest result: Draw at Al Nassr 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Batin (21/12) 3 Let’s be clear. This is not the same team that won the championship last year. Defensively, they look nimble. They were only lucky that their defensive errors were not pounced upon by their opponents. LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6 Latest result: Won at Al Taawon 3-2 Next SPL match: Home against Al Ettifaq (22/12) 4 Continued to be solid defensively, except for the only but very costly goalkeeping error by Hussain Shaian. But redemption was right after as he managed to keep his side in the game. Their attack leaves much to be desired, but against a team like Al Hilal, a good defense can usually get you at least a point. LAST WEEK: 4 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 7 Latest result: Draw against Al Hilal 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Fateh (21/12) 5 Called on their luck to earn the penalty and walked away with a subsequent point that looked highly unachievable. Made sure they put a dent on Sami’s aspirations if they couldn’t make do with anything. LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Al Shabab 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ahli (22/12) 6 Got an opportunistic goal from Mohamed Benyettou and a good attacking performance from the left foot of Heberty. Wanted more than a point (of course), but there are players on this roster to build a competitive team around. LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 11 Latest result: Draw against Al Ettifaq 1-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Qadasiyah (21/12) 7 Put on a clinic against Al Wehda, hitting all the gaps and abusing their speed advantage on the flanks. Based on the night’s game, as long as Partick Eze stays healthy, Qadasiyah are probably among the favorites to remain in top division. LAST WEEK: 7 HIGH: 8 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Won at Al Wehda 5-2 Next SPL match: Home against Al Shabab (21/12) 8 This could have been a big ‘W’ for them but Taawon still can’t generate any sort of reliable offense from the run of play. Top honcho Gâlcă will be working on the offensive line-up to make sure they can at least take advantage of a 3 v 2 situation if not anything else. LAST WEEK: 7 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Lost against Al Ahli 2-3 Next SPL match: Home against Al Wehda (23/12) 9 Sultan Al Sawadi pounced on a defensive mistake, and then the floodgates opened. For the first time in forever everything seemed to go right for Al Raed, who happily claimed a win after 5 games. LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Won against Al Khaleej 3-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ittihad (23/12) 10 Had so many chances to plow through the Faisaly defense on open plays, and squandered all of them. A home draw is, in theory, is not a fine result. But this is not the type what we were expecting from a very spontaneous Al Batin squad. LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw against Al Faisaly 0-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Hilal (21/12) 11 It is quite clear that they have the ability to score within their squad. It’s even more clear that they have the ability to concede a lot more. LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost at Al Raed 2-3 Next SPL match: Home against Al Faisaly (22/12) 12 Kudos to Fateh for fighting through and through while frustrating itti players and fans alike. Portuguese frontman Ukra could have had four realistically which could have changed the look of the game. But, that is how brutal football is. LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Ittihad 2-3 Next SPL match: Home against Al Nassr (21/12) 13 Will be happy with the away point considering their recent run of losses. But similar to Batin, had their chances and squandered it. Future looks bleak. LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Al Batin 0-0 Next SPL match: Away at Al Khaleej (22/12) 14 There is a distinct lack of aggressive punch in Al Wehda right now, as four goals they were scored on had come off super casual balls which should have been dealt with. Hard to see this team competing as we go through the rounds. LAST WEEK: 12 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost against Al Qadasiyah 2-5 Next SPL match: Away at Al Taawon (23/12)
