AGL Power Rankings, Week 11: Al Wasl Fire Up The AG League

1 Playing like the champions they should be and winning games like the champions they intend to be. Who again saves them from the blushes? Ali Mabkhout with a 90th Minute sa’roukh from right outside the 18. LAST WEEK: 1 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 4 Latest result: Won against Hatta 1-0 Next AGL match: Away at Al Nasr (17/12) 2 Redemption is sweet especially when it comes in the form of a thrashing. Absolutely dominated Dibba by playing through Fabio Lima. Apart from his goal-scoring prowess, his ability to hold the ball up, connect on and through useful passes, and create for others takes a ton of pressure off the Al Wasl midfield. LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 10 Latest result: Won against Dibba Al Fujairah 8-0 Next AGL match: Away at Al Shabab (16/12) 3 Getting three points on the road is always a good thing, even if it comes in the 90th minute . Al Ahli aren’t playing like we thought they would, but at least they have points on the board. LAST WEEK: 4 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6 Latest result: Won at Sharjah 1-0 Next AGL match: Home against Ittihad Kalba (16/12) 4 Nothing wrong with a road point against a derby rival, even if it came on as a gift. Al Ain won’t generate a lot of excitement defensively, but they’ve looked very solid offensively thus far. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 2 | LOW: 5 Latest result: Draw at Al Wahda 1-1 Next AGL match: Home against Sharjah (17/12) 5 Were looking good and well on their way for an upset until whatever Ali Al Hosani aimed to do with that high ball coming towards him. His lax approach to the ball resulted in the goal. LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 9 Latest result: Draw against Al Ain 1-1 Next AGL match: Away at Dibba Al Fujairah (17/12) 6 Ten points in their last five games is an amazing haul. Omar Khirbin and Machete Diop have earned some serious goal of the season and players of the year buzz via this game as without them, Al Dhafra would probably be both goal-less and pointless. LAST WEEK: 8 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Won against Al Shabab 3-0 Next AGL match: Away at Hatta (17/12) 7 This team was riding high on the top of the table a few weeks ago. Seems like a desert storm had entered their home and messed up the few jars of creative juices placed somewhere in there. LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 8 Latest result: Lost at Al Dhafra 0-3 Next AGL match: Home against Al Wasl (16/12) 8 Got to give it to the team to be consistent on at least one aspect. Past 5 games: WLWLW. LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 2 | LOW: 10 Latest result: Won at Baniyas 3-1 Next AGL match: Home against Al Jazira (17/12) 9 Still struggling to squeeze in a ‘Win’ against top tier teams. And when you concede a goal in the 90th minute, you know there is work needed in the mentality of the players. Hope Donis gets that right. LAST WEEK: 7 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Lost at Al Ahli 0-1 Next AGL match: Away at Al Ain (17/12) 10 See Sharjah. LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Al Jazira 0-1 Next AGL match: Home against Al Dhafra (17/12) 11 Triple M (Malian Modibo Maiga) with a Double H (Header) earns Kalba their first W in five games. Beautiful to see emotions run high at the end of the game. LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 12 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Won against Emirates 2-1 Next AGL match: Away at Al Ahli (16/12) 12 Ran out of ideas right after conceding the penalty in the 2nd minute. Their worst defeat in a few years. LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 11 Latest result: Lost at Al Wasl 0-8 Next AGL match: Home against Al Wahda (17/12) 13 This team is getting no creativity out of their midfield, and no longer have an Ishal Belfodil sort of a striker that would mask the deficiency left void by Larrivey. Nobody should be shocked if this team goes back down this season. LAST WEEK: 12 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost against Al Nasr 1-3 Next AGL match: Away at Emirates (16/12) 14 Lost the plot in the 90th minute. Must suck. LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 12 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Lost at Ittihad Kalba 1-2 Next AGL match: Home against Baniyas (16/12)
