SPL Power Rankings, Week 5: Ittihad Roar Back Onto The Top Of The Table

1 Didn’t put in a 5-star performance, but does it really matter? Fahad Al Muwallad continues his run for club and country with two (including a classy panenka) on the night. Capped it all off with  Kahraba paying his respect to the late club president Ahmed Masoud after scored – that was touching. Yet, suspicious of their defensive lineup. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 3 Latest result: Won against Al Taawon 3-1 Next SPL match: Home against Al Shabab (20/10) 2 Nasser Al Shamrani possibly pulled a fastest goal of the season contender with his first Minute strike. Both him and Eduardo with a brace each. When they fire, its just beautiful. ‘Zilzaal’ was the word of the night. LAST WEEK: 4 HIGH: 2 | LOW: 5 Latest result: Won against Al Faisaly 4-0 Next SPL match: Away at Al Khaleej (20/10) 3 A smart coach with a smart gameplay and league’s most lethal goalscorer can win you games. The defense still needs some fix, but it will do for now. LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 6 Latest result: Won against Al Qadasiya 2-0 Next SPL match: Away at Al Nassr (21/10) 4 Will not be happy with themselves after losing out on 2 additional points, especially against a team at the bottom of the table. Safe to say that the Ettifaqi offense forgot their shooting boots at home for this one. LAST WEEK: 1 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Al Fateh 0-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Wehda (21/10) 5 It wasn’t particularly impressive, but Al Nassr had pulled off enough Croatian power to win the game. And yes, Mohammad Al Sahlawi scored his first for Nasrawis. LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 2 | LOW: 7 Latest result: Won at Al Wehda 3-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Nassr (21/10) 6 That first minute goal shook them, it all went downhill from there – from 101 defensive errors to goal keeper blunders, all was on show. LAST WEEK: 3 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 7 Latest result: Lost at Al Hilal 0-4 Next SPL match: Away at Al Raed (21/10) 7 Still a lot of questions around this team but carved out a win. Likes to live dangerously in their half and showcased that in the last 10 minutes. Yet, a win in any form is a welcoming sight to Al Shabab fans. LAST WEEK: 8 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 11 Latest result: Won at Al Khaleej 2-1 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ittihad (20/10) 8 The luck of the blues is shining bright on this team. Remember, they only made it to the top division as a result of Al Mujazzel’s misfortunes. And now they look like a coherent unit that will not go back to the 1st division so easily. LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 7 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Won against Al Raed 4-0 Next SPL match: Home against Al Qadasiyah (21/10) 9 Showed resiliency against Sami Al Jaber’s men especially in the last 10 minutes but were hard done by Al Shabab GK Waleed Abdullah’s best friend – the goal posts – on two different occasions. LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 10 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost against Al Shabab 1-2 Next SPL match: Home against Al Hilal (20/10) 10 When they beat Al Wehda, there was reason to believe but then fell apart. Then they beat Al Fateh, we started to believe. And then it all fell apart yet again tonight. Not sure what to make of this team. LAST WEEK: 7 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 10 Latest result: Lost at Al Batin 0-4 Next SPL match: Home against Al Faisaly (21/10) 11 How did they even manage to give up that first goal? A play you would see in a U6 kids game where you have kids talking to each other regardless of whether the ball is in play or not. But cannot say Al Taawon they did not have opportunities, they just don’t have that person that can finish the game like Paul Efoulo did last year. LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Lost at Al Ittihad 1-3 Next SPL match: Home against Al Fateh (20/10) 12 That first game win was a boost. Since then it’s been downhill. Just look at their past four results. That’s a lot of L’s. LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 11 Latest result: Lost against Al Nassr 0-3 Next SPL match: Away at Al Ettifaq (21/10) 13 Second point in 5 games. They should be proud of themselves, or should they? LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 13 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw against Al Ettifaq 0-0 Next SPL match: Away at Al Taawon (20/10) 14 Al Qadasiya have yet to win a game but at the rate that they are traveling in, does not seem like it will come any time soon. Had one shot at goal. LAST WEEK: 13 HIGH: 8 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost at Al Ahli 0-2 Next SPL match: Away at Al Batin (21/10)
