AGL Power Rankings, Week 3: Al Shabab Rise To The Top For The First Time Ever

1 3 off of 3. Is it too early to say the team is on a brilliant run? Henrique Luvannor with a MoM performance today mainly due to his vision and anticipation of the second ball. However, we do question if Al Shabab can score more than two goals in a game this season? LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 8 Latest result: Won against Baniyas 2-0 Next AGL match: Away at Emirates (21/10) 2 A bye week for the team in league football. Only dropped them a point because Al Shabab deserve to be on the top of the rankings. LAST WEEK: 1 HIGH: 1 | LOW: 2 Latest result: Bye Week (-/-) Next AGL match: Home against Dibba Al Fujairah (22/10) 3 See Al Ahli. LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 2 | LOW: 4 Latest result: Bye Week (-/-) Next AGL match: Away at Al Nasr (23/10) 4 When healthy, Al Jazira look like the best team in the league. More interestingly, Emirati talent are stepping up for the Abu Dhabi based teams – which is always a good thing. Yet, the season has only begun and the crucial moment has not yet arrived. LAST WEEK: 4 HIGH: 3 | LOW: 4 Latest result: Won against Al Sharjah 3-0 Next AGL match: Away at Al Ittihad Kalba (21/10) 5 Al Wasl have been very, very very good when both Brazilians Caio and Fabio start finding the net. For a second league match in a row, both have showed up on the scoring list. A potential front partnership to drool over? Will have to wait and see. LAST WEEK: 5 HIGH: 5 | LOW: 10 Latest result: Won against Al Nasr 2-1 Next AGL match: Away at Al Wahda (21/10) 6 Glad to see last season’s top scorer back doing what he does best – score goals. The midfield looked disconnected at times but this team is a work in progress. Gut feeling is that Dzsudzsák will most likely leave the team in January. Just a gut feeling. LAST WEEK: 8 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 9 Latest result: Won at Al Dhafra 3-0 Next AGL match: Home against Al Wasl (21/10) 7 The derby had all the drama that one expects of it. Will be disappointed not to get that penalty call in the dying minutes. We understand the attack struggling without Wanderley but that cannot be an excuse of lack of opportunities. Al Wasl’s defense can’t possibly be that good? LAST WEEK: 2 HIGH: 2 | LOW: 7 Latest result: Lost at Al Wasl 1-2 Next AGL match: Home against Al Ain (23/10) 8 Disappointment. However, no reason to issue the distress call as of yet. Enough said. LAST WEEK: 6 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 12 Latest result: Lost at Al Jazira 0-3 Next AGL match: Home against Al Dhafra (20/10) 9 Held their chin up and battled valiantly to win the first round of the battle between the newly promoted teams. LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 8 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Won at Al Ittihad Kalba 2-1 Next AGL match: Away at Baniyas (22/10) 10 Agree that its early on, but are already showing signs that regular season might look like a lost cause. LAST WEEK: 9 HIGH: 9 | LOW: 10 Latest result: Lost at Al Shabab 0-2 Next AGL match: Home against Hatta (22/10) 11 Power Rankings did not expect entertainment coming out of this game. But it did come in the 90th minute via a stunner by Hamad Al Hosani. And what a stunner it was!!!! Tough loss though. #اتحاد_كلباء يسجل الهدف الأول في مرمى #حتا عن طريق حمد عبدالرحمن#دوري_الخليج_العربي pic.twitter.com/YGXcxiD2QQ — قناة دبي الرياضية (@dubaisportstv) October 14, 2016 LAST WEEK: 10 HIGH: 6 | LOW: 10 Latest result: Lost at Hatta 1-2 Next AGL match: Home against Al Jazira (21/10) 12 Will Theo Bucker be able to fix this? Lack-lustre on all angles which is so unlike the Dibba we had been accustomed to last season. LAST WEEK: 12 HIGH: 12 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Draw against Emirates 0-0 Next AGL match: Away at Al Ahli (22/10) 13 Mohammed Kwid has a lot of work to do. Al Dhafra have plenty of good players, but turning them into a squad that can remain in top division next season may be too much of an ask. LAST WEEK: 11 HIGH: 11 | LOW: 13 Latest result: Lost against Al Wahda 0-3 Next AGL match: Away at Al Sharjah (20/10) 14 Needless to say that they were allowed into good spots, but couldn’t break the defensive knot set up by Dibba and make that decisive play. Quality to finish is lacking with this group. LAST WEEK: 14 HIGH: 14 | LOW: 14 Latest result: Draw at Dibba Al Fujairah 0-0 Next AGL match: Home against Al Shabab (21/10)
