Can Lightning Strike Twice? How Stamkos And Perry Benefit The Lightning

Ask anybody who is the best player on the Tampa Bay Lightning. One might say Brayden Point, who is on a roll with 30 assists, and 28 goals. Look again. Corey Perry and Steven Stamkos are both grizzled veterans, but each one has stepped up to the plate, and are indeed carrying the team to victory.

Though Stamkos had his share of injuries, the Lightning captain now shows no signs of slowing down, anytime soon. He currently exhibits 42 goals – and is in the top 10 with 106 points. He still has some Rocket Richard trophy potential, as Stamkos methodically moves the puck up the ice, and balances his game by being quick. With him as the team captain, the Lightning are taking a good chance, with a desirable three-peat.

Perry is an astonishment. At 37, he defies age. He is like a fly on the wall, as he seems to see everything going on around him and knows where the puck is coming from and when to make his move – resulting in 19 goals this regular season. And yet, he plays hockey directly in the thick of it, is never afraid to speak up – asserting himself on the ice and getting in the opponent’s face when necessary, and provides relentless grit.

Steven Stamkos remains the team’s consistent points-amasser, while team agitator Corey Perry is second only to Anthony Cirelli, with 66 penalty minutes. They both possess a veteran’s presence plus scoring ability, making them mainstays on the team. With Stamkos and Perry, the Tampa Bay Lightning will remain hard to beat.  Lightning can strike twice.
