Welcome to the first part of our Season Round-up series.
The most common gripe within us fans regarding our team performance has been the team selection by Jose Mourinho. "We've got enough players to beat any team in the World", we say. I think that's true as well.
Variable line-ups and formations every week doesn't allow the talented players in our team to flourish and grow towards their full potential. The most prominent case of this problem was evident when we played Sevilla at OT and it cost us big time.
Lets talk about some of the teams fielded by us this season and come to a decision. Together.
The more recent one.
- The midfield remains dominant in this formation, Paul being the key player
- The attack almost selects itself nowadays, Mata for Lingard or Martial for Sanchez
- I'd start Jones over Smalling but Jose would have Lindelof sit out instead.
The 4-2-2-2
- The midfield proves to be non-existent in this one, Mata leaves too much space when retreating
- Jones and Smalling are the most used pairing this season, Bailly needs to be back soon
- Rashford provides a threat but lacks delivery as Pogba stays back
The infamous one
- Playing Fellaini for Herrera destroys the point.
- Pogba should start at number 10 as he's so reluctant coming back, ever.
- I'd swap Martial for Sanchez and put Alexis on the right.
- We need to buy a LB in the summer, Ryan Sessegnon maybe?
I'd personally go for the first choice, Just want Pogba to be more advanced and would love to see Martial hug the touchline for once, Smalling is too mistake prone so let's just wait for Bailly to be back. Bailly and Jones would be my CB pairing of choice.
