In the beginning it was the guys that created and led the first cheers. According to Wikipedia it wasn’t until the 1920’s in Minnesota that Women were permitted to participate to officially Cheer. During the war years of WWII women had more of an opportunity to join the sidelines of sporting events as cheerleaders. During the 50’s cheer squads began to increase and by the 60’s cheerleading became more populated by girls. Today, cheer squads are found at all levels of sports and armed with full cheer uniforms and poms at pee wee games held across the nation.
