In the 51st match of the 2017 IPL, the team wowed everybody by defeating the most successful team of this season, Mumbai Indians. It was on 11th May when the match took place between both the teams on the grounds of Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai. It is never too easy to defeat team Mumbai on its home ground but, Kings XI Punjab managed to do that in order to make it through to the playoffs. Desperate to make it to the playoffs, Kings XI Punjab did a fantastic job in the 51st match of the 2017 IPL. The toss was won by team Mumbai Indians which decided to bowl first. Henceforth, Kings XI Punjab came to bat. Batsmen Martin Guptill and Wriddhiman Saha gave a tremendous opening to the team by scoring 36 runs and 93 runs off 18 and 55 balls respectively.
Then, Captain Glenn Maxwell came to bat who scored 47 runs off 21 balls, with an outstanding strike rate of 223.81. This is how team Kings XI Punjab amassed the massive score of 230 runs in 20 overs on a loss of 3 wickets. No wonder, Mumbai Indians had to chase a huge score but the team seemed quite confident. Openers Lendl Simmons and Parthiv Patel gave the team a good start by scoring 59 and 38 runs on 32 and 23 balls respectively. But that was not enough as team Mumbai managed to score only 223 runs in 20 overs on a loss of 6 wickets. Hence, Kings XI Punjab won the match by 7 runs.

This match belonged to Wriddhiman Saha of Kings XI Punjab. The batsman did a remarkable job scoring 93 runs off 55 balls with an astonishing net run-rate of 169.09. Therefore, the player was given Man of the Match title.
