Highway renamed for fallen Blue Angels pilot from Durango

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. — A stretch of Highway in southwest Colorado will honor a Navy aviator who flew with the famed Blue Angels before he died. The Colorado Department of Transportation announced crews installed memorial signs for Capt. Jeff Kuss along Highway 3 on Monday, renaming the road the Captain Jeff Kuss Memorial Highway. Kuss died in a plane crash last June when during a practice for a Tennessee air show. Kuss is from Durango, Colorado. The Colorado state legislature approved the name for Highway 3 earlier this year. The highway stretches from the U.S. Highway 160-550 junction to Santa Rita Drive in Durango. According to CDOT, it was the original major road to reach Durango.
