PENSACOLA (WKRG/NNS) – She made history as the first female Blue Angels pilot, but now she is hanging up her flight suit. Captain Katie Higgins has done something no other woman has been able to do – pilot for the legendary Blue Angels Aviation Team. Higgins hopes her experience reminds people about the large number of women serving in the military. The Marine pilots Fat Albert, which is currently under maintenance, so she will make her last flight this weekend, during the Pensacola Air Show, in a loaner plane. Higgins said she hopes she paved the way for a younger generation of girls. “I think, no matter what your gender is, just to be selected to be on this scene is an order,” Capt. Higgins said. “I hope those that are not serving in the military or don’t have that opportunity are reminded that there are women and there are men serving overseas right now.  They’re fighting ISIS, they’re standing watching the specific and this team represents that.  We like to show with our pride and professionalism what those people are doing overseas and to be able to be a small representative of that is an honor.” The blue angels [...]
