PENSACOLA, Fla. (WEAR) — It is the 70th anniversary of the Blue Angels. It’s also the 20th anniversary of the Blue Angels Association. More than 100 former team members traveled to town for a big reunion. Channel 3’s Christina Leavenworth spoke with crew members from teams that flew in the 1960’s and 70’s. This group is truly a family with their own “family photos” and shared memorabilia. “Once a Blue Angel, always a Blue Angel.” said Blue Angels Association President, Smokey Ellefson. He served on the Blue Angels team from 1967-1969. He serviced jet #4. Ellefson said it doesn’t matter if you served on the very first team or today’s team. From the crew, maintenance to the pilots-it’s a small group with a shared bond. Every two years, many come back to Pensacola for a reunion to share old stories and reconnect. This year is extra special. It’s the 20th anniversary of the Blue Angel’s Association. The alumni will attend the airshow on Friday and Saturday.
