The GMAT examination is entirely computer-based, and no two students get an identical set of questions. The test is scored on a maximum of 800. The GMAT® Score alone cannot guarantee admission into a school. The test is only one of the major factors taken into consideration in the long process of an applicant getting admitted into a Business School that he/she desires.

Correlations between GMAT score and percentile:

  • 760 and up = 99th percentile = above this, fewer than 1% of GMAT takers
  • 750 = 98th percentile = above this, the top 2% of GMAT takers
  • 730 = 96th percentile = above this, the top 4% of GMAT takers
  • 700 = 89th percentile = above this, the top 10% of GMAT takers

What is the scoring pattern?

AWA section grades are from 0-6 in 0.5 increments. IR section is scored on a scale of 1-8 in 1 point increments. Quantitative score are from 0 to 60 (known as scaled score). However, 51 is 98 Percentile Verbal score are from 0 to 60 (scaled score). However, above 45 is 99 percentile on verbal Total Score are from 200-800 in 10 point increments.

The GMAT exam measures higher-order reasoning skills. You’ll need basic English-language and math skills. However, the test measures your ability to reason with these skills.  All sections of the test, including the AWA and Integrated Reasoning sections, involve reasoning. “Higher-order” reasoning skills involve complex judgments and include critical thinking, analysis, and problem-solving.
