Dudhwa National Park a heaven to Tigers is located in the Terai region of Lakhimpur-Kheri Districts of Uttar Pradesh. This region is considered to be the most vulnerable one to man’s exploitation. Therefore it was declared as National Park in The year 1977. Later in 1988 a core zone was demarcated in this park and that area was declared as Tiger Reserve. Dudhwa Tiger Reserve also extends into nearby sanctuaries namely Kishanpur Wildlife Sanctuary and Katarniaghat Wildlife Sanctuary. This park is bounded by River Mohana to the North and River Suheli to the southern side. River Mohana acts as a Natural boundary between Himalayan country- Nepal and India. Dudhwa National Park has breathtaking array of Flora and Fauna. It shelters many endangered animal and Bird species and supports life for a number of automatic and magnificent plant species.
Dudhwa National Park
This park is situated in the Terai region of India where many fertile alluvial plains and Marshy lands are located. The soil in the region is replenished every year by traversing streams through this area. The vegetation of Dudhwa National Park can be identified with Tropical Semi Evergreen forests and Swampy forest. This park is located at an altitude of 150-180m. This area is considered to be the remnant of Terai Ecosystem which is an endangered one in today’s world. The rivers which flow through this park are almost perennial and only a few gets exhausted during the summer season. Therefore soil in this region retains moisture round the year. As a result it supports a large wild plants and animal species.
Dudhwa National Park receives an annual rainfall of 150 cm. This region experiences extreme humid Subtropical with dry winters type of climate. During summer season this area will be under the wrath of scorching sun where temperature rises up to 40° C. Even during Winter season temperature in this area varies from 20-30° C. Dudhwa National Park is located at very close proximity to many important cities in the region like Lucknow (220Km), Delhi(400 Km), Chandigarh(600Km).

- Banke Tal– It is one of the most popular tourist hotspots. Several species like Cormorants, Egrets and Herons can be spotted in this region.
- Frog Temple-It was a unique structure built by the Maharajas of Oyal state. This temple was built in Frog shape at its base. It is a abode for the Lord Shiva. It is exactly located in Oyal village and situated 20km away from Dudhwa National Park.
- Surat Bhawan Palace– It was constructed during the 19th century in Indo-Sarsenic style. This palace was constructed by the monarchs of Singhai which spreads over 9 acres of land. Many British viceroys and native rulers enjoyed its hospitality. This palace is located 8km away from the Dudhwa National Park. Surat Bhawan Palace is one of its own kinds with lush green lawns, majestic fountains and pools. Permission need to be obtained from its manager before entering it.

Tourists can avail Safari services at Dudhwa National Park. Primary attractions in Safari are Swamp Deers and Tigers. Don’t start your journey to the park with Tiger-centric. Since it is very thick jungle, it is usually difficult ot spot Tigers. Besides Tiger you can enjoy yourself by watching other wildlife creatures and getting lost in the aromatic smell of the forests. You can choose either an Elephant or Open Jeep for Safari. If you opt for a Elephant ride, then definitely you can spot several mammoth Rhinos. Open Jeep ride is the only choice for exploring core Tiger Reserve area.

The forests of Dudhwa National Park are rich in Sal trees. Besides Sal other trees like Khair, Narkul, Silvery, Sisam, Haldu, Semal, Eucalyptus, Red retwa, Cotton like Kans and Teak can also be found here.
Dominant Fauna
Blue bull, Tiger, Wild Boar, Hog Deer, Swamp Deer, Sloth Bear, Rhinoceros, Langur, Jackal, Porcupine, Leopard, Elephant, Rhesus Monkey, Fishing cat, Sambar, Cheetal and Barking Deer.
Dudhwa National Park houses rare Barasingha animal. It is said that half of Barasingha population resides in Dudhwa National Park. Barasingha resembles Sambar Deer with 12 antlers and weighs around 12Kg.
Avi-Fauna– Bird-watching is prime attraction in Dudhwa National Park. There are nearly 350 bird species residing in this park. Some of the commonly found birds are- Painted Stools, Great Slaty Woodpeckers, Swamp, Francolin, Bengal, Florican, Sarus Cranes, Bulbuls, Minivets barbets, Woodpecker, Kingfisher, Drongos, Gees, Hornbills, Teal, Orioles, Egrets, Owls, White-rumped Vulture and Cormorants etc.
