How The Bruins Get Into the Playoffs

Tags: bruins

One game remains in the regular season for the Boston Bruins after Thursday night’s crucial 5-2 win over the Detroit Red Wings. The Bruins sit at 93 points, as do the Red Wings, each with one game remaining, while the Philadelphia Flyer vie for the second Wild Card spot with two games remaining and sitting at 92 points. Two playoff positions still remain unclaimed, and here’s how the Bruins can nab one of those two spots:

-The Bruins beat the Ottawa Senators on Saturday afternoon and the Red Wings lose in any fashion or win in a shootout. In this scenario, the Bruins and Red Wings would tie in regulation and overtime wins, the first tiebreaker, and the Bruins would win the second tiebreaker, the season head-to-head, having taken three of four from Detroit this season. In this scenario, the Bruins would claim the third position in the Atlantic Division and take on the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round.

-The Bruins beat Ottawa in any fashion, Detroit wins in regulation or overtime, Philadelphia loses either of its remaining games in any fashion. In this scenario, the Bruins would claim the second wild card position and take on the Washington Capitals in the first round.

-The Bruins lose in overtime or shootout, Detroit loses in regulation. The Bruins would claim the third Atlantic Division playoff position in this scenario and take on Tampa in the first round.

-The Bruins lose in overtime or shootout, Detroit wins or loses in overtime or shootout, Philadelphia gets two or fewer points in their final two games against Pittsburgh and the New York Islanders. In this scenario, the Bruins would travel to Washington for the first round of the playoffs as the second wild card team.

-The Bruins lose in regulation, Philadelphia earns one or zero points in their last two games. In this scenario, the Bruins would claim the second wild card spot and take on Washington in the first round.

So basically, the Bruins need a win on Saturday and will need a little help. Puck drop between the Bruins and Senators on Saturday afternoon at TD Garden is scheduled for 12:30 p.m. and tickets are available HERE.
