Paul Scholes has been quite outspoken about his issues with Man United‘s direction as of late. The midfielder-turned-pundit has recently been critical of the performance of Louis van Gaal and believes the Dutch boss could be on his last chance with the club. However, the legendary Red Devil also presented his own plan for fixing the club.
Speaking with BT Sport this past week [per the Manchester Evening News], Scholes declared that Man United only need to acquire about three good players at key positions in the transfer window to return to their former spot at the top of the Premier League.
“They need to spend some more money,” Scholes explained following Man United’s win against Norwich City this weekend.
“I think they need a top Centre Forward, a centre half and possibly a bit of creativity in midfield.
“I don’t think there’s need for eight, nine or 10 players or anything like that.
“I just think two, three, four players maybe at most just to bring some real quality to the team.”
Two months ago, Scholes put forth a pair of names that he was particularly fond of: Real Madrid duo Luka Modric and Raphael Varane. And, of course, no list of potential Man United targets would have been complete without the addition of Juventus megastar and former Man United academy ace Paul Pogba.
“I’d like Luka Modric. How old is he now? Might be a bit too old, but he’s a great player,” Scholes said at the time.
“I like Raphael Varane. I said realistic and I’m picking Real Madrid players?
“We probably need a centre forward but there’s not too many of them about so I’m going to say I’d like us to bring Paul Pogba back.”
Man United sit at fifth on the table as of writing but can clinch a spot in the Champions League with wins against West Ham and Bournemouth in the final two weeks.
