In-demand Arsenal ace could seal €28m+ exit in four-team transfer scrap

Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud could reportedly be set for a return to France as Marseille are said to be leading the race for his signature.

The Frenchman has seen his future at the Emirates plunged into doubt following the arrival of Alexandre Lacazette this week, as he will fall further down the pecking order next season.

While he’ll undoubtedly be desperate for first-team football, it has led to ongoing speculation of an exit The Telegraph suggesting that he could be set for a €28m deal, plus add-ons, to join Marseille and snub the likes of Everton, West Ham and Lyon.

It will be a difficult decision for the 30-year-old, as despite his desire to stay in north London he will want to play regularly, especially in a World Cup year, and so it seems to make the most sense all round for each party for him to move on.

Arsenal will miss him as he offers something different in attack with his aerial threat and ability to link up play, but with Lacazette now arriving at the club, it’s unlikely that his compatriot will get too much playing time which will seemingly bring an end to his time at the Emirates.

Everton had been paired with an interest as they search for a replacement for Manchester United bound Romelu Lukaku, while West Ham and Lyon were also said to be in the running.

However, based on this report, it sounds as though Marseille are in pole position for the former Montpellier man, but it remains to be seen if he prefers a return home or to stay in the Premier League.
