NBA HOF Moses Malone passed away at age 60

Moses Malone became the first player to go from high school straight to the pros when he elected not to play for the University of  Maryland but instead was drafted by the Utah Stars of the ABA in 1974. He then went on to play for the Spirits of St. Louis in 1975,  Malone's career in the ABA lasted only 2 seasons due the ABA-NBA merger in 1975-76. After the merger Malone played two games with the Buffalo Braves and was traded to the Houston Rockets in 1976-77 season, while in Houston Malone has established himself as on of the NBA's most ferocious rebounders. Malone was known throughtout the NBA as "The Chairman of the Boards" at 6'-10' 220 pounds he was able to bang with the best of them, Malone ranked third in rebounding behind Bill Walton and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar averaging 13.2 rebounds per game and  also helping the Rockets make it to the Eastern Conference Finals where they lost in 6 games to Philadelphia, Malone wore the #24 in 1979 which has been retired by Houston. In 1982 Malone went to Philadelphia via trade for Caldwell Jones, Malone along with DR.J, Bobby Jones, Maurice Cheeks, and Andrew Toney went on to win the NBA Championship in 1983 defeating the L.A. Lakers, along with his second straight MVP, Malone became the only  player in NBA history to win the award in consecutive seasons and giving DR.J. his first and only NBA Championship in Philly. Their 12-1 record in the playoffs is second behind L.A. Lakers 15-1 back in 2001. In 1986 Malone was traded to the Washington Bullets, Malone hit the 20,000th point mark against Detroit, he went for 50 points against New Jersey become the third player in Washington Bullets history to do it along with Earl "the pearl" Monroe (56) and Phil Chenier (52). Malone helped Washington get to the playoffs were they were swept by Detroit in the first round in 1988. Malone moved on to the Atlanta Hawks in 1988-89, signed as a free agent he teamed up with the "The Human Highlight Reel" Dominique Wilkins, Malone average 20.2 points, 11.8 rebounds per game and make his 12th straight Allstar appearance. With the help of Malone, Atlanta made the playoffs were they lost to Milwaukee in 5 games. Next stop for Moses Milwaukee where he signed to play in the 1990-91 season, Malone played all 82 games for Milwaukee averaging 15.6 points and 9.1 rebounds per game. In 1992- 93 the 76ers convinced Malone to return making his 18th season (20th overall), signed as a free agent Malone was brought in to tutor Shawn Bradley while in Philly, Malone by seasons end ranked third in scoring (27,360 points), games played (1,312), fifth in rebounds (16,166), first in offensive rebounds (6,711), free throws made (8,509), second in free throw attempts (11,058), and first in consecutive games played without a disqualification (1,195). Malone's final stop in his elustrous NBA career was in San Antonio where he was traded to back up "The Admiral" David Robinson in the1994-95 season, He played just 17 games with the Spurs and will be known for his three point buzzer beater eighty feet away against the Charlotte Hornets, his eighth 3 pointer of his career. Moses Malone passed away in his sleep due to a heart attack.
