It’s the most wonderful time of the year...

Nebraska men’s basketball season starts in just a few days. On Sunday, October 29th the team will have it’s first exhibition game against the mighty Tigers of Doane University at Pinnacle Bank Arena. A nice little intrastate matchup for all of us to see what the Huskers have in store for this season.

After that, the full season starts off on Monday, November 6th against Lindenwood University.

Yes, we are already here. It’s almost basketball season. The fall just goes by too fast sometimes. However, this season might just be something to write home about.

The word on the street is that this is the deepest team that the Huskers have had in quite some time.

There are rumors that Nebraska has played some pretty salty team(s) (Utah) in secret exhibition games and have done quite well. They have even seemed to won this?

I don’t know, you can only verify so much on here. I’ve also heard that they played UConn at some point. Take that for what it is worth. But hey, it’s good to at least have some good talk regarding the men’s squad. We need all we can get.

Looking at the talent coming back along with the recruits and transfers coming in, Nebrasketball might just be sneaky good this season. Yes, we’ve said that for years now. However, there is belief that coach Hoiberg has his team finally primed. It took a few years. Well, a few years longer than expected to be honest. But it does look good for Nebrasketball this season.

Other good news is that the Huskers recently received a commit from in state strong forward Branden Frager. Branden is currently a three star recruit out of Lincoln Southwest. He picked the Huskers over offers from Creighton, Iowa, and Iowa State.

Branden is the first commit for the 2025 class. He is 6’6 and roughly 210 pounds with room to grow. The commit seems to be a Husker diehard as he grew up in Lincoln and going to Husker basketball games since he was young. He is just a junior at Southwest but averaged 11 points and 7 rebounds per game for the Silver Hawks. I can only imagine we will hear his name more these next two years.

Also of note was Big Ten Media Days. A time where coaches and a handful of players head to a major meeting in a large metropolitan city within the footprint of the conference.

This year, they went to Minneapolis. Fred brought with him senior forward Josiah Allick, junior forward Rienk Mast, and junior guard C.J. Wilcher. Per usual, coach talked up this upcoming squad. They’re the deepest, toughest, and hungriest team he has ever coached...

What, you thought I was going to give you a fluff piece? I’ve been doing this going on nine seasons now. Big Ten Media days is a dog and pony show. There’s not much to report on. Coaches talk very little and reporters rarely push for any real answers. The player are there to get some camera time and a steak.
