We take a look at the Big Ten series history between these two teams and try to predict the next thrilling chapter

It is no secret that the Huskers and Wildcats have had a thrilling series of games since Nebraska joined the Big Ten. Below, you will find a short recap of all the games from 2011-2020 and then I’ll ask for your predications.

No, I’m not asking for your score predictions yet. We’re going to see if we can predict the the next epic chapter in this rivalry.

Series Recap

2020 - A Woeful Husker Offense got two chances in the fourth quarter trailing the Wildcats 21-13. In both possessions, the Huskers drove inside the Wildcat 15 with the first possession ending in a Luke McCaffrey interception and the second in an incomplete pass (McCaffrey to Wan’Dale Robinson) on fourth down.

2019 - A woeful Husker offense, decimated by injuries (Martinez and Spielman) limped their way to a 10-10 tie in the waning seconds. The Huskers called out backup, walk-on safety Lane McCallum to kick the game-winning field goal as time expired to eek out a 13-10 win.

2018 - The Wildcats final drive of the game (jump started by a Husker roughing the passer penalty in the end zone) ended in a touchdown to tie the game at 31 and send it into overtime. The Huskers’ first OT possession ended in an Adrian Martinez interception. The Wildcats made a field goal on their possession to win 34-31.

2017 - The Huskers led 24-17 after three quarters, but Northwestern tied the game and forced overtime. Tanner Lee’s fourth down pass in overtime was incomplete and the Wildcats scored a touchdown to win the game 31-24.

2016 - Tommy Armstrong, Jr. quarterbacked Nebraska to a relatively “comfortable” 24-13 win.

2015 - Tommy Armstrong Jr. threw a pick six in the first half and the Husker run game was bottled up tight by the Wildcats. Neverless, the Huskers drove down the field to score a touchdown in the waning minutes of the game. Down 30-28, the Huskers attempted the two point conversion, which was no good. Final: 30-28 Northwestern.

2014 - Behind Armstrong and Ameer Abdullah, the Huskers cruised to a 38-17 win.

2013 - Hail Westy!

2012 - The Huskers were down by 12 points halfway through the fourth quarter. Taylor Martinez rallied the Big Red to two touchdowns, winning the game 29-28.

2011 - The Huskers scored a touchdown in the final 20 seconds to close within 28-25 but could not get the onside kick and the Wildcats win by three.

Predictions - Of a Different Sort

So, we’ve had late game rallies that succeed, late game rallies that fall short, overtime thrillers, a Hail Mary, a walk-off field goal and a couple of rare double-digit wins.

What’s next? How do you think this series could add to the storied history this weekend?!?
