Nebraska lands their first 5 star recruit in history

Bryce McGowens, the younger brother of current Husker Trey McGowens, has announced that he will sign with Nebraska. The 6’6” guard is 5 star recruit that hails from Greenville, South Carolina. He is the #1 recruit out of South Carolina, #3 shooting guard in the country, and #26th player overall according to 247.

Bryce previously was committed to Florida State but decommitted on October 8th. In the end, Nebraska beat out the University of Georgia for his talents. Bulldogs head coach Tom Crean made a strong push to get his talents to Athens but it just wasn’t enough in the end.

His brother Trey is a transfer from the University of Pittsburgh and will be eligible to play this upcoming season. Their father Bobby McGowen played basketball at Clemson and South Carolina State. Also of note, he is friends with and went to high school with current husker Elija Wood. It looks like the brotherly bond and friendship was strong enough for him to take his talents to Lincoln.

During his junior year, Bryce averaged 25.3 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game for the Hurricanes. He is expected to have an even better senior season.

Bryce is Nebraska’s first 5 star recruit and highest rated player in the recruiting service era. This is a huge get for Fred Hoiberg. Bryce should be a great fit into the system and will compete well against the Big Ten competition.
