Dear Agony, Just Let Go Of Me

Without even playing a down in 2020, four Nebraska seniors make Reese’s Top 250. Jojo Domann, Brenden Jaimes, DiCaprio Bootle and Deontai Williams.

There ya go.

Fun times.

SPORTS! SPORTS! SPORTS!

Strauss: Why the NBA has a serious viewership problem it needs to fix – The Athletic
There’s one big issue, though. The desperate need for a new national TV deal comes at the exact moment that viewership interest in the league has cratered. Not merely ebbed. Not subsided a bit in accordance to what one might expect with “cord cutting.” No, the NBA has fallen to a new viewership low perhaps not seen since the 1980s.

The Rangers Cried Because Fernando Tatis Jr. Hit a 3-0 Grand Slam | Bleacher Nation
Man this boiled my blood a bit. Some of the “unwritten rules” of baseball are such utter nonsense.

Is your favorite MLB team cursed?
The first time anybody talked about "The Curse of the Bambino," according to newspaper databases, was in 1989, when buzz started to build about an upcoming book of that title by Boston sportswriter Dan Shaughnessy. Before that, there had been scattered talk of the franchise curse, perhaps kicked off by this 1978 Red Smith column in The New York Times.

Big Ten had consensus, but it was not unanimous
University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green said Wednesday that the decision to postpone the fall college football season was made by a vote of the Big Ten Council of Presidents and Chancellors, while reiterating that the decision was not a unanimous vote.

Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren gave his first interview since last week to Sports Business Journal.
Big Ten Commissioner Kevin Warren has stayed relatively silent since the league's decision to not play sports this fall.

Warren gave his first interview since last Tuesday to Sports Business Journal.

In the short clip released by SBJ, we really didn't learn a whole lot new, but it appears the league will be releasing their plan for spring football shortly.

Lauren Stivrins' Growth as a Leader for Nebraska 'Really, Really Cool' | Hail Varsity
When I sat down to start brainstorming feature ideas for this year’s volleyball issue of Hail Varsity Magazine, it didn’t take me long to hone in on Lauren Stivrins. As a dynamic player and personality as well as a team leader heading into her senior year, it was a no-brainer.

Green: 'There Was Absolutely a Vote' on Big Ten Decision | Hail Varsity
Was there a vote to postpone fall sports in the Big Ten? University of Nebraska-Lincoln Chancellor Ronnie Green confirmed that a vote did take place in an interview with KLIN on Wednesday.

Attorney requests docs behind Big Ten decision to cancel season
An attorney representing several players’ parents in the Big Ten is requesting documents from the conference’s member institutions in an effort to gain more insight behind the decision to cancel the fall football season.

Attorney Tom Mars, who has represented several college football players in recent years, filed a Freedom of Information Act request to Michigan State on Wednesday afternoon, 247Sports has learned.

The objective of four verticals is to overload two or three deep zones with at least one more receiver than the defense can cover

Big Ten | football | Kevin Warren | Open letter
Let the healing process begin.

At least that’s the thinking with Wednesday’s release of Big Ten commissioner Kevin Warren’s open letter to the Big Ten community. He offered a mea culpa for not communicating well amid the aftershocks of the August 11 announcement by the Big Ten to postpone the 2020 season. Still, that decision—the timing of it, in particular, in addition to not explaining the thought process in making it—still rings with sting for some.

“STICK TO SPORTS!” Nah.

The Mammalian Brain Starts Eating Itself When It Doesn't Get Enough Sleep
The need for sleep goes far beyond simply replenishing our energy levels every 12 hours. Our brains actually change states when we sleep to clear away the toxic byproducts of neural activity left behind during the day.

750 million genetically engineered mosquitoes approved for release in Florida Keys - CNN
A plan to release over 750 million genetically modified mosquitoes into the Florida Keys in 2021 and 2022 received final approval from local authorities, against the objection of many local residents and a coalition of environmental advocacy groups. The proposal had already won state and federal approval.

As I say below, I’m currently reading a book about mosquitoes (which makes me an expert because all you have to do is read a book on a subject then you receive a certificate in the mail from the expert coalition). They do not add anything positive to the environment except, depending on your viewpoint, human population control. So I say, we need to do whatever we can to minimize them. The people of Africa and Asia would greatly appreciate it.

Let My Family Review Your Favorite Recipes!

Way back before the spawn of the internet I tried doing a Nebraska inspired recipes series. The first article was easily my most shared article on Facebook. Dorothy Lynch Meatballs. I still have some of those recipes stashed away and I might have to bring them out.

At this time I would love to have my family try out your favorite recipes. I have a two, five and seven year old that will tell you exactly what they think.

We are open to just about anything. I do have to say however is that the lower number of ingredients and the ease of cooking (like slow cooker/instant pot/one pot) type of recipes are definitely welcome.

Some of the more time invested recipes would have to happen on a Sunday more than likely.

I have an electric smoker as well, though don’t take it too personally if I screw it up as it is still a learning process.

Corn Nation will be without fall football so this is an attempt to try and buy some time until the winter/spring, if football happens at all.

We have been talking about trying to do a series of some type akin to the Nebraska County countdown, but that has proven to be difficult.

So until we figure something out go ahead and throw your recipes in the comment section or email them to me. Also, if you have ideas on a series then we are definitely all ears.

The Best Things I Saw On the Internet This Week

Just started the book, The Mosquito: A Human History of Our Deadliest Predator by Timothy C. Winegard and there was a reference to this video in the footnotes.
