Flakes: Optimism Is In the Air

The flagship sports at Nebraska may be down, but the whole of Husker athletics is definitely not out. EA Sports settled their lawsuit. Another day, another article about a woman trying to do her job being treated badly by a person with dishonorable intentions.

Good morning Corn Nation! It has been a beautiful spring here in the Cornhusker state.

OK, Nebrasketball stumbled down the stretch and the women's hoopsters fell short of their goals. However, their season still continues and they have a chance to put together a WNIT run. If you look around, there are still some pretty good sports being played at dear old NU. The rifle team has All-Americans, softball is ranked, bowling is back on top and the track teams are continuing their usual excellence. Also, don't look now but baseball may have found starting pitching (knocking on wood).

As a bonus, we are only weeks away from crowning new spring Football heroes and arguing over whether player X, coach Y, or walk-on Z will be the difference-maker that brings the conference title back to the Big Red.

Take a deep breath. Enjoy the spring sports optimism.

Players who were featured in the NCAA football or basketball franchises will receive a modest amount of money.

The article below makes me mad. It should make everyone mad. This also will not get better anytime soon. I have heard quite a few people in higher education say that there is an entire generation of young men coming out of college that have no idea how to treat females as colleagues and coworkers.

I have casually read articles and paid some attention (my way of saying I am not an expert) to the gloom and doom predictions made about the generation about to enter the workforce (every generation thinks the next generation is going to destroy the world and somehow we are all still here). if the "entitlement" descriptors are correct, we will likely read articles like this one for many years.

I am not sure what a person can do about this - it seems like such a big problem. I do have three sons.  At least I know where to start.
