Frosted Flakes: Valentines, Softball, and RPI Is Difficult to Understand

Nebraska women’s basketball takes on Michigan State tonight. This will be an important game for the Big Red’s NCAA tourney chances.

Happy Valentine’s Day Corn Nation! The ultimate in made-up, commercial, guilt-inducing holidays. While I despise the overall concept, I admit that I enjoy chocolate and wine. Sorry ranchdude for the spoiler, but after 21 years of marriage I’m pretty sure I know what I’m getting for a present. I’m not into jewelry or perfume. I’m an introvert, so going out on an evening guaranteed to include crowds is also not my thing. So... homecooked meal (he travels a lot and appreciates a fancy meal at home over eating out) and chocolate/wine it is. We’re boring I admit.

I like this way better than dating and guessing what someone else would like. We have some young, single people on the CN staff. Lately, we’ve been giving them dating advice. I won’t name names, but maybe they can use better advice.

What do you have for them CN? (Community guidelines still apply)

Next, an apology. I abandoned you on Sunday when the Husker women [basketball] were playing Wisconsin. I thought I’d be home in time to set up a preview/game thread. I was not. Nebraska battled to a sloppy, sluggish 51-48 win. Combined with the loss at home vs Maryland a few days earlier, the Husker women are now in the “outside looking in” category for the NCAA tournament.

They have a chance to boost their resume tonight on the road vs the Michigan State Spartans. Despite being 15-11 overall and 5-8 in the Big Ten, Sparty is currently 12 spots ahead of the Huskers in RPI at #54. Nebraska’s offense needs to get back on track tonight while not forgetting their lockdown defense.

Two Huskers to watch? Taylor Kissinger (6’1” freshman guard) and Janay Morton (5’10” redshirt senior guard). Neither is currently projected to be in the starting lineup tonight. Morton was a strong contender to make the starting lineup until she suffered a preseason foot injury. Kissinger did start early in the season as a true freshman, but was sidelined late in the non-con schedule with a knee injury. Both are returning to form and are making opposing coaches scout the entire Husker roster. Amy Williams has been playing 12 [there are 12 on the roster] in every game of late, with each player capable of having an impact, even if only for a few minutes.

Look for a more detailed preview in the game thread to be posted at 5:30 pm (central).
